Jacob was stumped by the question.
By Hassan's logic, he really had no business storming into Sycamore Quays looking for her.
Yet, driven by some gut instinct he couldn't quite explain, he just *knew* Natalie was here. Maybe it was because the two of them had been practically inseparable since childhood. Even knowing they were on the verge of divorce, his subconscious still treated their connection as unbreakable.
He really just felt that Hassan and Natalie were inextricably linked.
Jacob shot back, "So you're saying she's not here?"
Hassan leaned back into the sofa with lazy grace, his tone glacial. "Aren't you sticking your nose a little too far into my business lately? Do I have to give you a full roster of everyone inside my own house?"
He raised his eyes slightly. "Barging in here screaming for Natalie the second you hit the door. If someone didn't know better, they'd think she was your wife."
Jacob nearly choked on his anger. "What the hell are you talking about?! Is that what I meant?! I'm saying you can't go soft on her! Don't think I don't know! Out of everyone in the world, the person who caves to Natalie the fastest is you! Remember when you went abroad with her? Have you forgotten how long you were lying in that hospital bed?"
Jacob had always been at odds with Natalie in the past, but it was usually just petty bickering. If anything, she was a frenemy to him. But the real breaking point came when Hassan had escorted Natalie abroad, returning so gravely injured that he had been hospitalized for ages—and Natalie hadn't remembered a single thing!
Jacob still didn't understand the full story, but Hassan had explicitly forbidden him from ever mentioning the injury to her. While Hassan was hospitalized, Jacob had even been roped into lying to her, claiming he was just slammed with work.
"Haven't you realized that every single disaster in your life is caused by her?" Jacob ranted, entirely unrepentant. "You should have divorced her ages ago! She doesn't deserve you! Aside from eating, drinking, and partying, all she does is stir up trouble and act cute so you'll clean up her messes. What else is she good for?!"
