The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 132

Suzie was so stunned by the woman’s words she couldn't speak. Her incredulous gaze darted between Jamie and Lucy.

She was about to correct Lucy’s use of her name when Jamie spoke first.

“Lucy, please prepare the meal. Mrs. Baylor is hungry.”

Lucy nodded immediately and left.

Suzie turned to Jamie, her face a mask of disbelief and confusion. “Jamie, what is the meaning of this?”

His expression remained cold as he glanced at her. “What are you referring to? The name? The meal? Or the pregnancy nurse?”

Suzie’s voice rose. “What do you think? A pregnancy nurse? To take care of my daily needs? Did I say I was staying here? Mrs. Baylor? Am I your wife? Jamie, let me spell it out for you—this is house arrest!”

Suzie couldn't understand him at all. He’d bailed her out of jail, discovered the children were alive, and let her sleep until she woke naturally. Now, he was having food prepared for her. They were divorced, yet he was going to the extreme of hiring a pregnancy nurse and keeping her at the Baylor Manor?

Didn't he suspect she had cheated on him? Shouldn't he despise the woman who had supposedly cuckolded him? What was his motive? What was he planning?

Jamie didn’t answer her question, instead retorting coolly, “How did you end up in jail?”

Suzie frowned. It sounded like a question, but on closer listening, it felt more like a taunt, as if he were implying that if she left this house, she’d just end up framed and back in jail again.

Since she'd woken up, their conversation had revolved entirely around the children. She hadn't even had a chance to ask how he knew she was in trouble.

But at this point, Suzie didn't want to argue anymore. She cut straight to the point. “Where's my purse? I need to call Stella to come and pick me up.”

Jamie gave Suzie a fleeting glance, then shifted his gaze to Lucy, signaling for her to leave.

Once Lucy was gone, Jamie stepped back into the bedroom, stopping just a foot away from Suzie. He leaned in close. “You'd better behave.”

Suzie was speechless. He had to be insane.

In the next second, Jamie grabbed her hand tightly and began pulling her toward the round table. “If you won't eat, they have to. Or, I can feed you.”

‘They?’ Did he mean the babies? Was he capable of caring about the children?

Before she could resist, she was already at the table. Her eyes fell upon a lavish spread of various dishes, all steaming and fragrant.
