The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 136

Night fell.

Suzie had eaten her fill and was now slowly pacing around the bedroom.

She looked for her clothes and handbag, but after scanning the entire room, she couldn’t find them anywhere.

She sighed softly. Was Jamie really going to keep her locked up in here?

As the thought crossed her mind, she continued her slow walk around the room. It was… exactly as she had left it, so clean it seemed as if someone had been regularly tending to it.

Since her clothes were gone, Suzie could only stare down at the silk nightgown she was wearing. It draped smoothly over her body, completely different from the loose, pleated dresses she usually wore to hide her figure.

Now, looking down, her baby bump was strikingly obvious. So obvious, in fact, that anyone could see she was pregnant at a single glance.

Her gaze swept across the room and, as if guided by an invisible force, she walked toward the closet. Standing before it, she hesitated for a moment before slowly pulling the doors open.

The sight inside made her freeze. The number of clothes was the same as when she had left, but now, every single garment was protected by a dust cover.

Her long, slender fingers gently traced over the familiar fabrics, and memories began to flood her mind. Yet, as she sifted through the fragments of her past, she couldn't find a single tender moment with Jamie. His parents had been indifferent toward her—neither liking nor disliking her. Only Richard had truly cared for her, doting on her like his own granddaughter…

Just then, the bedroom door creaked open.

Suzie quickly shut the closet. By the time she turned around, Jamie had already strode into the center of the room.

While Suzie would never beg him for her own sake, the doctors were innocent. More than that, they were her saviors—and her children’s saviors. She had to ask, because she knew Jamie wouldn’t spare anyone who defied him.

After she finished, she waited quietly for his answer.

Jamie slowly walked toward her, stopping just short of her. His voice was laced with an unreadable tone as he asked, “Is that all? Nothing else you want to ask of me?”

Without a hint of hesitation, Suzie immediately shook her head.

Jamie narrowed his eyes, studying her for a few moments before pacing over to the sofa and sitting down. Suzie’s gaze followed him, still hoping for his agreement.

Leaning back with his legs crossed, Jamie exuded an incomparable air of aristocratic grace, looking every bit the handsome man he was, even with two bandaged wounds.
