Suzie held her tongue, forcing herself to remain calm. A tense silence settled over the room as everyone waited, each of them fraught with their own anxieties.
By the time the police arrived, Lexi seemed to have suffered a complete breakdown. She was slumped on the floor, propping herself up with her hands, her eyes vacant and unfocused.
The officers took turns interrogating the man and Lexi, taking detailed notes of their statements. Once they had completed their initial work, they prepared to escort both of them out.
Suzie watched in disbelief. Was this it? Was it all over, just like that?
Even if she believed the two models hadn't intentionally caused trouble, she couldn't accept that Chloe had nothing to do with any of it. She knew she had no evidence, but a sense of urgency seized her.
Just as the officers were leading the man and Lexi toward the door, Suzie rushed forward to block their path. She pointed at Lexi and addressed the officer politely. “Officer, may I have a word with her?”
Before the officer could reply, Lexi shot Suzie a venomous glare. “I have nothing to say to you,” she spat. “This is all your fault, you jinx! If you hadn't come to Mirage Studio, none of this would have happened to me!”
With that, Lexi turned to the officer, her voice devoid of emotion. “Let’s go, Officer. I don't want to speak to this woman.”
Suzie tried to approach Lexi again, but one of the officers stepped in her way. “Please stay back, Ms. Sterling.”
What kind of upbringing, what kind of soul, could create someone so devoid of loyalty, so cold-blooded and venomous?
Suzie's drifting thoughts shifted from the wicked woman on the sofa to Jamie. Wasn't he supposed to be incredibly intelligent? He couldn't possibly be blind to Chloe’s true nature.
The thought that Jamie might be protecting Chloe sent a sharp pang through Suzie’s heart. From across the room, Chloe’s taunting gaze made her skin crawl.
She walked over, her voice steady and clear. “Chloe, how can you be so vicious? Don't you have nightmares?”
