“Let’s go.”
Jamie held Suzie’s hand tightly, slowing his pace to match hers.
When they reached the corner, Suzie coldly pulled her hand away.
“That’s enough.”
Jamie frowned, about to say something more, but Suzie had already walked into the store.
Ruby had already picked out several outfits and was just waiting for them to return and pay. Jamie, who had followed them in, promptly took out his card and handed it to the salesperson before turning to Suzie.
“You didn’t pick anything?”
Suzie paused. With her belly growing bigger by the day, she realized she really did need some new clothes.
Before she could speak, Jamie took back his swiped card, pulled a different one from his pocket, and handed it to Ruby.
“There’s a café on the top floor with all sorts of food. Go wait for us there. I’m going to take Suzie to buy some personal items.”
Ruby pouted. “But I haven’t bought any jewelry yet.”
Suzie remained silent, thinking to herself, *The nerve of her. The clothes already cost a small fortune, and she still has the gall to ask for jewelry?*
She pretended not to hear.
After a moment of silence, Jamie took yet another card from his wallet and gave it to Ruby.
“Go buy some.”
