Lionel gritted his teeth, his voice seething with resentment. “My daughter was in an accident and ended up in the hospital. It was only then, from the blood test results, that we discovered my wife and I have blood types that could never produce her! Further testing confirmed it—she is not our biological child! The only way that could have happened is if something went wrong at the hospital.”

“The people who could afford that hospital were all from wealthy, powerful families. A mistake like this could only have been caused by one of you common staff members. I investigated the families of every employee, and you were the only one! Only your family has a daughter the exact same age. If you didn’t switch the babies, then who did?!”

Perhaps because she was so used to bluffing and playing the victim, Margaret replied without batting an eye. “Is that flimsy reason enough to convict me? Couldn’t someone else have done it for a relative? Or maybe you made an enemy, and they just grabbed a random baby to switch with yours? Don’t make wild accusations without proof!”

As she spoke, Lionel’s expression grew darker, and his fists clenched tighter, as if he was about to strike her.

Seeing this, Margaret quickly shot David a look. The next second, she clutched her chest, her face contorting in what looked like genuine agony, and slowly collapsed to the floor. Then, in a strained voice, she continued her performance. “David… my… my medicine… my heart…”

This wasn’t the first time David had seen her pull this stunt. He immediately started wailing, “Honey! Honey, don’t get worked up, stay calm! I’ll get your medicine right now!”

As he ran toward the back room, he kept an eye on Lionel. The man seemed genuinely startled by Margaret’s collapse. He stood up from his chair and stared down at her, frozen in place.

From the other room, David deliberately shouted, “Honey, we’re out of medicine! We’re out! Hang on, I’ll take you to the hospital!”

He then ran back into the living room and pointed a finger at the intruders. “None of you are going anywhere! If anything happens to my wife, I’ll drag her body into your living room!”
