The three toddlers froze for a split second before launching themselves into Suzie's embrace.
Tiny arms wrapped around her neck, clutching her shoulders and burying their faces into her clothes.
The sheer, desperate force of their hugs made it glaringly obvious that they had been wronged.
Suzie stroked their backs, murmuring soothing words as her gaze turned into blades of ice, sweeping across the room.
The principal and the teacher stood by in nervous silence, looking like they desperately wanted to explain but were too afraid to speak.
Suzie's glare drifted over to Myron and his wife.
The woman was slightly heavy-set and dripping in offensively gaudy designer brands, her makeup caked on entirely too thick. She looked to be around the same age as Margaret.
She was currently glaring daggers at Suzie, periodically shifting her venomous scowl down to the three babies.
When Suzie pulled her gaze back, she locked eyes with Myron.
The sleazy older man didn't look like an outraged parent seeking justice at all. He was openly ogling her, his eyes practically undressing her with unapologetic lust. A wave of pure nausea rolled through Suzie's stomach.
She quickly looked back down at her children, just opening her mouth to speak.
The shrill, ear-piercing shriek of Myron's wife shattered the tension in the office.
"So you're the mother? How the hell are you raising these little savages? Three of them ganging up on my precious boy? Look! Look at his poor arms and knees!"
Suzie turned toward the screeching woman, watching as she frantically shook her son's arm to display his supposed injuries.
Myron muttered, trying to play peacemaker.
Zeke chimed in eagerly. "Yeah! Zayn is right. He tried to steal her toy today, and a few days ago, he reached right onto my lunch tray and stole my favorite piece of chicken!"
Zoey pouted her little lips, her voice trembling slightly.
"Mommy, the rules for free play say all the toys stay in a big storage bin. We get to pick what we want, and when we're totally done, we put it back so someone else can play. I only played with my toy for a tiny minute before he tried to rip it away. And he pinched me! Look, Mommy."
Feeling deeply wronged, Zoey shoved her chubby little arm forward. A nasty, bright red pinch mark was starkly visible against her luminous skin.
Zoey suddenly whipped her head around to glare at Grady, her tiny voice laced with fierce indignation.
"You pinched me, and then you lied to the teacher! You're a lying, bad boy, Grady! I'm never playing with you ever again!"
"Who are you calling a bad boy? Who do you think you're talking to!" Myron's wife screeched the second Zoey finished her sentence.
