Aaron played the part of the long-suffering employee perfectly, venting his fake frustrations for several minutes.
He didn't stop until he saw Keegan's expression shift to genuine belief.
"Alright, Mr. Lynn, I will let you get back to work. I need to hurry back to Mr. Baylor's office before he docks my bonus for taking too long."
Keegan politely walked him to the door. Once Aaron disappeared down the hallway, Keegan locked his office door.
He pulled out his phone and dialed Gene Dudley, the Vice President.
"Mr. Dudley, I figured it out. Please don't blame me for the setback. Mr. Baylor took total control of the Sugar Buddies project himself. I tested Aaron, and the man is entirely loyal to him. What should we do?"
"We will discuss this later," Gene replied coldly, before abruptly ending the call.
Keegan stared at his phone, shaking his head with a heavy sigh.
...
Meanwhile, back in Jamie's office.
Aaron stood by the executive desk, delivering his report. "Mr. Baylor, just as you predicted, Keegan wanted to talk about the Sugar Buddies contract. Your suspicions about him colluding with the Vice President seem correct."
Jamie set down the document he was reading, his voice strictly professional.
"Ever since the DC Entertainment acquisition began, Gene has been making subtle moves. I have already spoken privately with the board of directors. But we need concrete evidence. For the time being, hand your lesser duties over to the secretarial pool. I need you focused entirely on Gene. Do not alert him. Our only goal right now is gathering undeniable proof."
"Understood, Mr. Baylor," Aaron replied respectfully.
Gene was exceptionally competent. He was the only person in the company's history to climb from an entry-level position to the executive suite.
She didn't have many friends, so she assigned custom ringtones to each of them. She instantly recognized it as Oliver's.
He hadn't called her since the day she visited Helen.
Hearing the sudden ringtone made her heart race. She immediately feared the worst about his mother.
Panic gripped her. Keeping one hand on the steering wheel, she reached over to grab her bag.
Just as her fingers brushed the leather, a deafening crash echoed through the cabin.
The violent impact of being rear-ended threw Suzie forward. Her forehead smashed brutally against the steering wheel.
She slammed on the brakes, a wave of dizzying pain washing over her as her head throbbed in agony.
