In the driver's seat, Jamie occasionally glanced in the rearview mirror at their tense, whispering faces, a cryptic smile playing on his lips.

They soon arrived at the hospital's emergency department.
Suzie hurried toward the registration windows.
"Mia, that line looks like it's moving a bit faster. Let's line up separately."
Mia replied, "Okay, Suzie. Don't worry too much. Most sources online say those bacteria have a really hard time surviving in exposed air."
Looking at the long lines and seeing medical staff frantically pushing a resuscitation cart nearby, Suzie was suddenly reminded of Stewart.
She quickly pulled out her phone and dialed Aaron's number.
"Aaron, I know this is sudden, and I'm sorry to trouble you, but... could you do me a favor?"
Amidst the background noise, Aaron's respectful voice came through.
"Ms. Sterling, please just give the word. Also, your brother is sorted. The doctor is treating him right now, and I'll have someone keep watch here. Don't worry."
Suzie hesitated for a moment, then said gently,
"Thank you. I'll have someone drop off the medical expenses to you tomorrow. Just... when he wakes up, please tell him you found him injured on the street and saved him out of kindness. If he asks about me, say you don't know and haven't seen me..."
Before Suzie could finish her sentence, a tall figure appeared in her peripheral vision.
Her hand holding the phone froze in place.
Jamie...
Wasn't he supposed to be parking the car? The lot was huge with barely any spaces—how did he park and get here so fast?
Aaron's voice came through the phone.
"Ms. Sterling, why? Does your family really not know you're alive?!"
Suzie turned slightly, avoiding Jamie's sharp gaze, and murmured into the phone,
Muttering to herself internally, she finally reached the window, only for Jamie to suddenly snatch her ID from her hand.
"Go sit over there and wait. I'll handle this."
His tone was gentle, yet it carried an undeniable sense of authority.
Suzie felt as though she'd turned to stone. Let him handle it?
She had stood in line all this time, she was right at the window—did she really need him to save her the last minute of standing?
She immediately reached out, snatched her ID right back, and used her elbow to shove him aside.
Jamie was speechless.
He hadn't expected her to shove him like that. His expression instantly became incredibly complex, but still, he didn't leave.
Treating him as completely invisible, Suzie grabbed her medical record and called Mia over to find a doctor.
Once in the treatment area, the doctor drew the curtain, cleaning the wound while asking what had happened.
