The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 389

Visit her?!

Back then, at the Baylor Manor, Chloe had publicly thrown Lexi to the wolves, blaming her for everything. Lexi had desperately wanted to scream the truth. Even if she had to go down, she was only an accomplice!

Nobody had died. It hadn't been a heinous, unforgivable crime. As a minor accomplice, she might not have even faced jail time.

But the moment Chloe had shoved that phone screen in her face, Lexi had been silenced. Chloe had threatened Lexi's family. Left with no choice, Lexi had swallowed the betrayal whole and taken the fall.

And after that? Chloe had vanished off the face of the earth.

While Lexi was rotting in a cell, her family came to visit, revealing that Chloe had never paid a single dime of the hush money she had promised in that text message.

Lexi had taken the blame. She had suffered the consequences. And she got absolutely nothing in return!

If she didn't get revenge, she would choke on the injustice for the rest of her life.

Since getting out, finding decent work had been impossible with a criminal record. She had managed to scrape by running a photography page on social media, barely earning enough to feed herself.

She had come to the gala tonight for two reasons. One, to network and hopefully hustle some business. Two, to see if she could run into Chloe. She knew Chloe used to live for these high-society events.

But her luck was garbage—a scalper had sold her a fake ticket!

It wasn't like she hadn't tried tracking Chloe down. She had gone to both of Chloe's domestic addresses multiple times, but they were empty. The neighbors said no one had lived there in ages. Lexi had hit a total dead end.

She wanted to scream a nasty comeback, but a strange hesitation held her back.

Suzie was intentionally mocking her, testing the waters. Back then, Suzie had deduced that Chloe was the mastermind, but Lexi had still played a willing part in framing her.

Now, realizing that Lexi had been completely screwed over by her supposed friend, Suzie wanted to see where Lexi's loyalties truly lay.

Even though Suzie didn't know where Chloe was hiding either, she knew the value of laying the groundwork.

As the gears turned in Suzie's head, Lexi snapped, "Getting scammed by a scalper isn't a crime. You're just doing a little better for yourself now, so what gives you the right to act so high and mighty?"
