The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 390

Despite the harshness of Lexi's words, Suzie could hear the underlying restraint. Lexi was actively reigning in her temper.

A faint smile touched Suzie's lips. She leaned slightly toward Chester and whispered, "Do you have an extra invitation?"

Stella, who was practically glued to Suzie's side, heard her and frowned in warning. "Suzie, don't do anything crazy..."

Suzie gave her a look that clearly said, *I know what I'm doing*. Stella clamped her mouth shut.

Noticing their hushed exchange, Chester leaned in and whispered back, "I do, but..."

"Then please give me one," Suzie interrupted smoothly.

"Give me two minutes," Chester said, immediately turning on his heel and heading back toward his parked car.

Suzie turned her attention back to Lexi. The woman hadn't moved an inch. Her eyes kept darting nervously toward the entrance, then back to Suzie.

"I happen to have a spare invitation," Suzie said casually. "Do you want it?"

Lexi froze, clearly stunned. But a second later, a cynical sneer twisted her face. "You? Giving me a ticket out of the goodness of your heart? What, you want me to reach out and take it just so you can snatch it away and laugh? You always did love playing these two-faced, manipulative little games, didn't you? If you've got a ticket, go inside. Stop showing off."

Suzie merely smiled, completely unfazed. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Chester returning. "I do have an extra. If you don't want it, I'll just give it to someone else."

Just as she finished speaking, Chester arrived and handed her the card.

Chester and the guard stood there for a few seconds, their hands still awkwardly suspended in mid-air, before slowly lowering them.

Stella scoffed loudly, leaning into Suzie. "Are you trying to use her to dig up dirt on Chloe? Suzie... that woman has completely fallen off the map. She could be dead for all we know. And even if she does show up, Lexi is a loose cannon. Did you see the way she just acted?"

Suzie turned to look at her friend, her voice soft and enigmatic. "Do you believe in fate, Stella?"

Stella let out a long sigh. "I believe she's a mess."

Suzie shifted her gaze back to the entrance. Lexi had already passed the security check and was walking into the grand hall.

Just before disappearing into the crowd, Lexi paused, looking back over her shoulder at Suzie one last time, her expression unreadable. Then, she hurried inside.
