"Do you have any idea who Mr. Baylor is? Or what kind of woman he would keep? Look at yourself. You're a pathetic nobody in cheap rags... and you think you can just claim to be connected to the most powerful man in the city? You crippled my date, and you actually thought dropping his name would save you?"
Myron tightened his grip, spitting the words with absolute venom.
Lexi's bluff had failed spectacularly. Panic clawed at her throat, and then she remembered the voice in the crowd shouting about her time in prison.
Who else in this entire ballroom knew her past? Who else knew her secrets?!
Frantic, her eyes scanned the remaining crowd until they locked onto a familiar face.
"Suzie!!!" she screamed.
The piercing shout made the lingering guests swivel their heads, searching for whoever "Suzie" was.
Suzie stepped forward slightly, meeting Lexi's terrified, desperate gaze. There was still a flicker of resentment in the woman's eyes, but it was entirely swallowed by raw, suffocating fear.
Suzie remained perfectly silent. Myron, following Lexi's line of sight, spotted her.
"Mrs. Wycliffe? You... you know this woman?"
Myron's tone softened dramatically, staring at Suzie in shock.
Suzie still didn't say a word, simply watching Lexi with a cool, unreadable expression.
Lexi was reeling. This terrifying tycoon actually knew Suzie? And why on earth did he just call her "Mrs. Wycliffe"?
She didn't have time to figure out the bizarre connection. All that mattered was the unmistakable tone of respect Myron had used.
Lexi hesitated. If she antagonized Suzie now, this man would absolutely beat her to a pulp and toss her onto the street.
Worse, she had just severely injured a woman in front of witnesses. With her criminal record...
A lawsuit would destroy whatever pitiful future she had left!
The moment Myron saw Jamie, he dropped Lexi's hair as if it had caught fire.
He practically scurried over, bowing with a sickeningly sycophantic smile.
"Mr. Baylor! I am so incredibly sorry. I had no idea we were disturbing you. It's entirely my fault."
Jamie barely gave him a passing glance. Without a word, he strolled over and seated himself on the opposite sofa.
Instantly, a dead silence fell over the entire crowd.
Stella leaned in, whispering directly into Suzie's ear.
"Are we bailing?"
Suzie murmured, "No."
