The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 402

Larissa looked even more aggrieved. "You're only scolding me! I was the one who got attacked, and my ankle is severely sprained..."

"Serves you right!" Myron snapped again. Then, instantly switching back to a fawning smile, he turned to Jamie. "Mr. Baylor, this is entirely my fault for ruining your evening. Please..."

Seeing Aaron pull out a cigarette for his boss, Myron scrambled to pull out his own lighter. Striking the flint, he cupped his hand over the flame and continued his endless flattery. "Allow me. It's my absolute honor to light it for you."

Jamie cast a cold glance at him but didn't refuse. Once the cigarette was lit, he took a slow drag and spoke in a calm, flat tone. "Lexi, what do you have to say for yourself?"

Having observed the scene in tense silence, Lexi stiffened when he called her name. The fact that he even remembered it meant he knew exactly who she was. Her heart hammered against her ribs. Swallowing hard, she answered cautiously, "Mr. Baylor, this bracelet is my own. I didn't steal it. The security footage at the entrance should show that I was already wearing it when I arrived."

She didn't dare mention Chloe's name. Regardless of whether Jamie loved Chloe or Suzie, she knew better than to try and ride on anyone's coattails. Right now, Jamie was the one calling the shots. As long as he didn't intentionally try to crush her, she should be fine—at worst, she'd have to pay the other woman's medical bills.

Jamie tapped his cigarette, his tone perfectly casual. "If she could afford to give you such an expensive piece, you must know where she is now, right?"

A jolt of sheer terror shot down Lexi's spine. He recognized the bracelet? And he knew Chloe was the one who gave it to her?! But why was he asking? Did he not know where she had gone either? His tone didn't exactly sound like a man desperately searching for the love of his life... What on earth was going on?

Struggling to control her trembling hands, she stammered, "S-since I... since I was sent away a few years ago, I haven't heard a single thing about her."

Suzie slowly set down her fork and replied coolly, "I don't know any Mr. Baylor. What's this about? Did that woman lose something else and decide to pin it on me out of thin air?"

"Please, Ms. Sterling, it's nothing like that. He has an urgent matter to discuss with you. It's about what happened a few years ago..." Aaron added cryptically, hinting that it was about Chloe.

As he spoke, he cast a hesitant glance at Chester. After a brief pause, he nodded politely. "Mr. Lambert."

Chester completely ignored him, keeping his head down and aggressively eating a piece of fruit.
