The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 403

It wasn't that he was thirsty or starving; his brain was just entirely short-circuiting, and he needed the mechanical motion of chewing to process the shock!

What the hell was going on?!

Aaron's deferential attitude toward Suzie was practically the same as how he treated his boss. And Suzie! Her tone and total lack of respect showed she clearly didn't give a damn about Jamie Baylor.

Even if she had been a maid at the Baylor Manor and had some sort of falling out, Jamie had still technically been her employer. There was definitely a history here. A massive one!

Before Suzie could respond to Aaron, Chester swallowed his last bite of fruit, pulled a wet wipe from the dispenser to clean his hands, and asked with a complicated expression, "Ms. Sterling, if I may overstep... do you and Jamie have some sort of history?"

Aaron pretended not to hear the question. Stella did the same.

Suzie stood up gracefully and offered a faint smile. "Yes, we do. While I wouldn't call it a blood feud, it was definitely terrifying. If you're smart, you'll keep your distance from me."

With that, she stepped out of the booth and walked calmly toward Jamie's table.

Chester stared blankly at her retreating figure. He hesitated for a long moment but ultimately chose not to follow. Stella didn't bother waiting for her and immediately went after her friend, with Aaron trailing respectfully behind.

When they arrived, Aaron extended his arm toward the seating area. "Ms. Sterling, Ms. Vance, please take a seat."

"No need," Suzie replied breezily. "Everyone's busy. Just say what you need to say."

No, it wasn't even that he was "putting up with it"—there wasn't a trace of anger on his face. Instead, he looked disgustingly gentle!

It was enough to fry Myron's brain. He wiped the sweat from his forehead, trying to make sense of it all, when he suddenly caught Aaron glaring at him.

Wait... was he being told to get lost?

Well, when the king's right-hand man gave you a look, it was essentially a royal decree! It felt like he was a courtier trying to present a petition while the king was busy trying to seduce a favorite consort.

Myron hurriedly gave a respectful nod, hauled Larissa to her feet, and snapped at her, "Suck it up! I'll have someone take you to the hospital!"
