The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 488

Mia's voice quickly came through the speaker.

"Hey, Suzie! I'm on my way to drop the kids off at school right now. Once I drop them off, I'll head straight over. Stella already texted me the room number. I've got it saved."

Just as Mia finished speaking, a chorus of tiny voices erupted in the background, all shouting, "Mommy!"

Suzie's heart melted, and she couldn't even reply fast enough. Mia laughed over the noise.

"Suzie, they're begging for a video call. We're about ten minutes away from the kindergarten."

"Yes, yes, of course, let's video call!" Suzie agreed instantly. But then panic hit her. She couldn't let the kids see she was in a hospital.

She hung up the voice call and frantically scanned the room for a background that didn't look entirely sterile and medical. Finally, she spotted the window and rushed over, standing with her back to the glass.

When the video call connected, three little faces were crammed into the screen, their excited voices filling the room.

Suzie smiled brightly, keeping her voice sweet and soft. "Mommy had to go on a last-minute business trip yesterday. Be good at school today, and Mommy will pick you up this afternoon..."

Before she could finish, that familiar crisp scent washed over her again. Jamie stepped right next to her, casually leaning in so his face appeared in the frame.

"Mr. Jamie! Are you with Mommy?" Zoey gasped, covering her mouth with her chubby little hands.

Zayn and Zeke looked equally shocked.

"Hi, guys. Yes, I'm working with your mommy today... Did you miss me?" Jamie asked, a warm, genuine smile lighting up his eyes as he looked at the screen.

"Yeah! We miss you! Remember, you promised to visit the set next weekend!" Zoey answered eagerly, while her two brothers nodded in agreement.

"I know. I'll definitely be there..."
