Chester was completely bewildered by Jamie's rapid-fire questions.
Hadn't he been back for ages? What kind of question was that?
As for what he was doing here? He...
Chester frowned, stammering, "I... I came to take Ms. Sterling to dinner. And, Jamie, what do you mean when did I get back? Didn't I return a long time ago?"
Meanwhile, Suzie scoffed internally. She was eager to see if he was really missing those few years in his head.
With that thought, Suzie quickly jumped in, saying, "You might not know this, but Mr. Baylor seems to have suddenly developed amnesia. He only remembers things from a few years ago."
"Damn, seriously?!" Chester's eyes widened. He quickly turned his attention to Jamie and instinctively reached out to feel his forehead, but Jamie instantly swatted his hand away.
Unbothered by the rejection, Chester immediately asked in shock, "How did you suddenly get amnesia? Selective amnesia? That's straight out of a soap opera!"
Jamie furrowed his brow but didn't respond. His gaze shifted back and forth between Suzie and Chester for a moment.
Then, catching Suzie off guard, Jamie wrapped his arm around her and looked right at Chester. "What business do you have showing up here alone to see my fiancée?"
Chester was stunned. After their past few encounters, he had been itching to ask Jamie for an explanation.
But he had also been terrified to ask, afraid that their relationship was exactly the romantic entanglement he suspected, and even more afraid that things between them hadn't ended cleanly. But now...
If Jamie really had selective amnesia and his memory was stuck from a few years ago, what was this about Suzie being his fiancée?
