As he spoke, Jamie reached out, his thumb gently swiping a tear from her cheek.
But the moment he wiped one away, another instantly took its place. He tried several times, but the tears kept falling.
She was crying, but she wasn't making a sound. There was no delicate, helpless weeping.
Beneath the glossy sheen of tears, her eyes were burning with a hatred so deep and visceral it looked like a thirst for blood.
A second later, Suzie slapped his hand away and glared at him with terrifying intensity.
"What did that bastard Myron do to me?! Where is he?!"
Her voice was raw, shaking with rage. She was clenching her jaw so hard her face had gone flushed, the veins on her porcelain forehead standing out starkly.
Suddenly, she snapped. She shot up from the mattress, grabbing the lapels of Jamie's shirt in a white-knuckled grip.
"Answer me, Jamie!! What did he do?!"
Jamie frowned. Her clothes had been entirely swapped out, and yet she didn't possess a single shred of suspicion that *he* might have taken advantage of her? She instantly assumed Myron had assaulted her?
"Suzie, nothing happened. You need to calm down," Jamie said gently, trying to soothe her.
Right on cue, a hesitant knock echoed from the door.
Jamie grabbed a spare pillow and placed it behind Suzie's back, his tone commanding but soft. "Don't let your mind run wild. Just sit back and rest. I'll get the door."
As he turned to leave, Suzie panicked and grabbed his arm, her tear-stained face staring up at him.
"Are you telling me the truth?!"
Jamie gave her a firm, unwavering nod. Only then did she slowly let go of his arm.
What she didn't see was that the moment Jamie turned his back, a faint, deeply satisfied smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth.
