Orion's brow furrowed. Had his cousin seriously not mentioned their relationship or how they pulled off the rescue?
He also noticed that her eyes were a little red. She looked like she had just been crying. What had that cold-blooded cousin of his said to upset her this time?
Clearing his throat, Orion brought a fist to his mouth. "It's a long story. I'll fill you in another time. By the way, did Jamie's fever break?"
Fever?
That explained it. When he had pressed his hand to her forehead and grabbed her arm, his skin had been burning hot.
Seeing her confused silence, Orion pressed on. "Last night, he noticed your temperature was up, but honestly, his fever was way worse than yours. Yet he stayed by your bed the entire night. It's the first time I've ever heard of him getting sick like that. He must have been terrified out of his mind when we were getting you out."
Suzie was speechless. He wasn't a toddler; grown men didn't just spike a fever from being startled.
As she averted her gaze, Orion's voice pulled her back. "Look, you two are driving me crazy just watching you. You need to actually communicate instead of jumping to your own conclusions. And honestly, give the guy a break. He really cares about you."
He paused, his expression turning serious. "Last night, Jamie beat that animal, Myron, so badly that he was rushed to the ER. We just got word that he survived, but he was half-dead. If Myron decides to press charges, Jamie could actually face prison time. And he did it all to protect you. Yet here you are, acting like you couldn't care less."
Suzie listened to his lecture in silence. Considering how Orion had openly yelled at Jamie at the banquet and was now speaking up for him, it was clear their relationship was far from ordinary. And since he had genuinely helped save her, she couldn't exactly snap back at him, despite his unwarranted scolding.
