Once their drinks arrived, Suzie pulled a sleek folder from her bag and slid it across the table.
"Nadia, you asked for five million dollars. I spoke with Jamie's legal team. They are only willing to cover standard liability—medical bills, rehabilitation, and lost wages. They simply aren't going to hand over the kind of money you're asking for."
The light drained from Nadia's eyes. Within seconds, she covered her face and began to quietly sob.
Suzie softened her voice. "Nadia, listen to me. What Myron tried to do to me... I have every right to press charges for attempted sexual assault. I've already had the civil lawsuit drafted."
She pulled a single sheet of paper from the folder and placed it in front of Nadia.
"This lawsuit, along with the evidence I've gathered, proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Jamie acted entirely in self-defense. Yes, he used excessive force, which is why paying the medical bills is fair. But a massive payout? No judge would ever award that. Whether you try to sue him or not, the outcome will be exactly the same."
Nadia stared blindly at the legal document, her voice thick with tears. "I don't care if that bastard rots in a cell. I already hate him to my core. But Suzie... I need that money. It's the only safety net I have left for me and my child."
"I know. Don't panic yet," Suzie said steadily. "Since you told me what Margaret did, and gave me the clue that my biological parents are still out there, I owe you. And I take care of my debts."
Her expression turned entirely businesslike. "When we spoke two days ago, you mentioned wanting to reclaim the assets Myron funneled to his mistress, Larissa Lowell. How is your evidence coming along?"
Nadia nodded frantically. "I pulled Myron's bank statements and tracked the funds he wired through his shell companies. It's around ten million. But the corporate accounts make up the bulk of it, and I don't have concrete proof that the money was used for personal gifts to her. What do I do?"
