The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 587

The blood drained from Suzie's face. She didn't want to die in this cramped restroom, burning alive or choking on toxic fumes. The entire store was essentially a tinderbox of highly flammable plastics and plush fabrics.

Her chest tightened so painfully she could barely breathe.

Then, she heard the officer's hushed voice over the phone. "Where is she?"

"The restroom," Jamie replied instantly. "We're in the warehouse. It should be two doors down on the left."

"Stay behind me and don't make a sound."

"Understood."

Suzie held her breath. The terrifying screams from the main floor had eerily quieted down.

A few agonizing seconds later, Jamie's voice came through her speaker, low and urgent. "Suzie, listen to me. Open the restroom door as quietly as you can and run straight for the warehouse. Do not make a single sound."

The moment he finished speaking, the officer's voice echoed, "Ma'am, go. Now."

Suzie took a massive breath, slipped off her high heels, and grabbed them in one hand. She unlocked the deadbolt with a soft *click*, eased the door open, and sprinted down the dark hallway toward the cracked warehouse door.

Before she could even register what was happening, strong arms wrapped around her waist, yanking her safely into the shadows.

"Get out! Go, go!" the officer ordered.

Jamie gave the cop a sharp nod, scooped Suzie up into his arms, and bolted out the back door into the alleyway.
