Suzie opened the door and stepped out, looking around in mild confusion. It looked like a preschool, but it was incredibly quiet.
Across the parking lot stood a set of double doors. After a moment of hesitation, Suzie walked toward them.
Pushing the doors open revealed a wide, sunlit hallway lined with spacious classrooms. Through the massive glass windows, she could see outdoor play areas complete with swings, slides, and sandboxes.
As she walked deeper into the building, the faint sound of children laughing finally reached her ears. She followed the noise until she reached an open classroom door.
The room was full of kids, and right in the middle of them was Jamie.
The cold, untouchable billionaire was crouched on the floor, his face lit up with a brilliant, genuinely warm smile. He didn't flinch as tiny, sticky hands grabbed at his expensive dress shirt or tugged on his arms. Several kids were practically climbing into his lap, and he was laughing right along with them.
Suzie stared, completely mesmerized.
Jamie looked up, his eyes locking onto hers. The smile on his face softened into something deeply tender.
"Excuse me, are you here with Mr. Baylor?"
Suzie jumped slightly and turned around. A woman in her fifties, dressed in a simple, practical outfit with her hair pulled back neatly, was smiling kindly at her.
Suzie nodded politely.
"Come, let's sit in my office for a bit," the woman offered, gesturing down the hall.
Once inside the cozy office, the woman poured Suzie a cup of water. "I don't believe I caught your name?"
"Suzie."
