Sheila shook her head frantically, tears streaming down her face. "I swear I don't know! She promised me a final payment, but she just vanished without giving me a dime."

A knock on the heavy office door interrupted them.

"Come in," Aaron called out.

A secretary escorted Lexi into the room. Lexi looked just as terrified as Sheila, taking only a few tentative steps before freezing in place.

"Mr. Baylor," she said, her voice unsteady. "I told Ms. Sterling everything I was supposed to."

As she spoke, she shot a quick glance at Sheila, who was still quietly sobbing in the corner.

The truth was, Jamie was the one who originally tracked down Sheila—the other girl who had helped Chloe. But a few days ago, Aaron had approached Lexi, instructing her to be the one to deliver the truth to Suzie.

Lexi didn't have much of a choice. At the banquet, if Aaron hadn't stepped in to mediate, Larissa Lowell and Myron Finch would have absolutely pressed charges and thrown her in jail. If she got locked up again, her family would be completely destroyed. More importantly, she was terrified of what Jamie would do to her if she refused.

So, she agreed to Aaron’s terms and went to see Suzie. The attempt to leverage the information for a job, however, was entirely her own desperate idea.

She just hadn't expected to walk out of that office with two stinging slaps to the face.

As Lexi's mind raced, Aaron escorted Sheila out of the office.

Lexi's gaze shifted to Jamie, who was sitting behind his massive desk. The lengths this man was going to just to win Suzie back... it was obvious he was deeply in love with her. Lexi cursed herself for ever being blind enough to follow someone as toxic as Chloe.

She let out a heavy sigh, only to freeze as Jamie’s voice cut through the room, cold as ice.

"I heard that by the pool a few years ago, you didn't just slap Suzie. You pinched her, too."

A cold sweat broke out on Lexi's back. Terrified she was about to face his wrath, she quickly pulled down her face mask, her voice trembling. "Mr. Baylor... she... she already hit me back for it."
