Vivian? The Vivian Wycliffe who had been riding in Alice Quinn's car that day...
Suzie understood Eleanor's predicament. Even without a blood connection, you couldn't just sever decades of emotional attachment to a child you'd raised.
These things couldn't be rushed.
Suzie nodded sincerely. "I know. I'll keep my distance for now. If you want to see me, you can always come to the studio."
She handed Eleanor a business card.
Eleanor took it with trembling fingers, her voice choking up again. "My sweet girl... you've suffered so much all these years. Mom is so sorry. Once I have everything sorted out, I will bring you home. Your father is out of the country on business, so he doesn't know yet. I'm going to tell him to come back immediately so he can meet you."
"Okay..." Suzie nodded, fighting back tears.
They stayed at the restaurant chatting late into the night. Afterward, Hayden took Eleanor home, then headed straight to Marquis Residences to see Suzie.
Just as he stepped into the elevator, Jamie arrived in the lobby.
When they reached Suzie's floor, Hayden grabbed Jamie by the arm and yanked him into the fire escape stairwell.
Pulling out a cigarette, he offered one to Jamie, his eyes narrowing. "You were the one pulling the strings when Suzie was forced out of Timefly Studio."
It sounded like a question, but his tone was absolute.
Hayden had recently found out that Jamie had met with Alice Quinn, offering to secure a lucrative project for her in exchange for driving Suzie out.
At the time, Alice had indeed felt threatened by Suzie and Hayden's close relationship, though she never admitted it out loud. Perhaps fearing Suzie would usurp her position, and enticed by Jamie's generous offer, Alice had gladly played along.
