Seeing that he had slipped right back into his shameless, teasing demeanor, Suzie gave up trying to reason with him. She turned to leave, but Jamie caught her arm.

"I invited your mom and brother to play golf this weekend. Why don't you come with us?"

Suzie shook off his hand and stopped in her tracks, turning to face him. "Jamie, you helped reunite my family and gave me a home. Everyone is incredibly grateful to you. But don't you think this deliberate, desperate attempt to win favor is crossing a line?"

"I'm pursuing the woman I love and bonding with her family. What line am I crossing?"

Her gaze lingered on his face for a moment before she replied coolly, "Golf is a game for rich people like you. I'm not worthy."

With that, she hugged her files to her chest and walked out the door.

Suzie stayed busy in the studio until it was time to clock out.

Mia followed her all the way back to the office. "Mr. Baylor left shortly after you went into the studio."

Suzie nodded. "Good. Mia, do you have any plans after work?"

"Me? Nothing. What do you need me to do? Just say the word."

"Want to come to the mall with me?"

"Yes! Absolutely! It's been forever since I went shopping."

With her biological father returning soon, Suzie figured she should prepare some gifts for him, as well as for her mother and brother.

The two of them left the studio and headed to an upscale shopping center.
