The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 620

Mia opened her mouth to snap back, but Suzie leaned in and whispered in her ear. "Mia, ignore them. Let me find out what's going on."

"Fine," Mia muttered, nodding. She glared down at the woman, issuing a stern warning. "You have exactly three minutes. If you don't let go, I am going to get physical!"

Just as Suzie was about to crouch down and ask the woman to explain, one of the clerks suddenly gasped.

"Wait, look at her! Isn't she the woman who was trending on the news with the CEO of Baylor Group?"

Another clerk's eyes widened in realization. "Oh my god, you're right! I knew she looked familiar."

"Wait, are you that plastic surgery girl?"

"Oh, so she's a gold digger? All those designer clothes and that fancy bag were probably bought by the Baylor CEO."

"Well, that explains why she's friends with a thief. Trash attracts trash."

As the clerks continued their relentless, nasty chatter, Suzie completely tuned them out. Her entire focus was on what the woman had just said: *I have something to tell you. Something incredibly important.*

Ignoring the judgmental stares, Suzie crouched down, keeping her voice completely level. "You know who I am? What is it you want to tell me?"

The woman looked at Suzie, frantically wiping her tears, and pleaded, "Pay for the scarves first, and then I'll tell you."

Mia squatted down next to Suzie, losing her patience. "So this is extortion now? Tell us what you know right now, or I'm dragging you to the police station myself."

But the woman clamped her mouth shut, refusing to say another word, just clinging to Suzie's legs like a barnacle.

Suzie was starting to feel like she was being played. Perhaps the woman had merely recognized her from the news and was using the 'secret information' as bait to force Suzie into paying her way out of getting arrested.

Deciding to test the theory, Suzie slowly stood up and turned to the clerks.
