Cynthia frantically waved her hands in denial. "Please don't misunderstand. I'm perfectly sane." Her eyes were filled with desperate urgency as her hands unconsciously twisted the hem of her shirt. "My original plan was to ask you to pay for the scarf, and in return, I was going to tell you something incredibly important. But when I heard those clerks whispering about a plastic surgery girl, I got scared and didn't dare say anything."

She bit her lip, her gaze pleading. "If you didn't help me, those clerks would have called the cops on me anyway. So... I had to latch onto you. If you can get me out of here, I'll tell you everything I know."

Suzie frowned, still not giving her an inch. "You've been rambling this whole time, but about what? I don't even know you. What kind of earth-shattering news could you possibly have that I'd care about? Besides, you're a shoplifter. Who's going to believe a word you say? You better just sit there and wait for the police to process you."

Turning her body away, Suzie made it clear the conversation was over.

A moment later, Cynthia's voice drifted from behind her again. "You know Lucy, right? The maternity nurse."

Suzie froze slightly. Jamie had specifically hired Lucy to care for her during her pregnancy. What could be wrong with her?

"What are you trying to say?" she asked, turning back around.
