"She was begging me to put in a good word for her with the cops," Jamie replied.
Suzie frowned. "Is that all?"
Jamie nodded.
Suzie searched his eyes but couldn't detect any hint of a lie, which set her mind at ease. She opened the passenger door and slid into Hayden's car.
When Jamie moved to open her door, Hayden pulled him aside. "I've got her. And by the way, this is definitely not how you win a woman back."
Jamie glanced back at the car and backed off. Turning to Hayden, he asked, "Did you set up the meeting with Lionel Lockwood?"
Hayden nodded, a troubled look crossing his face. "I video-called my dad and explained everything. Tomorrow night, Suzie will have a private dinner with my parents. The night after that, we're doing the big reveal at our house. Honestly... it's going to be absolute torture."
Jamie patted his shoulder. "Vivian might be innocent in all this, but the fact remains that she's been enjoying the life that rightfully belonged to Suzie. Simply put, this is just restitution. Your family affairs aren't my place to interfere, but make sure you protect Suzie. She's been through enough. Once this blows over, we'll coordinate our next move against the Sterling family."
With that, Jamie turned and walked away without looking back.
Hayden stayed behind to smoke a cigarette, letting his nerves settle before getting back into the driver's seat.
