Three years of loving him, three days to erase myself from his world novel Chapter 311

Despite the cold, she grabbed a flashlight and scoured the park for the kittens. After finding nothing, she finally headed upstairs to her apartment.

Stepping inside, her mind still preoccupied with the missing cats, she kicked off her snowy boots.

Just then,

A faint scratching sound echoed from the hallway outside her door. Listening closely, she heard the undeniable, high-pitched mewl of a tiny kitten.

Clara froze, her brow furrowing in confusion. She turned back and opened her front door.

Sitting right on her welcome mat was a tiny, snow-white kitten. Terrified by its new surroundings, its massive blue eyes stared up at her in utter panic, meowing pitifully. It was impossibly cute.

"Oh my goodness, who left you out here?"

Clara's heart melted instantly. She glanced up and down the empty hallway before crouching down and scooping the trembling furball into her arms. As she gently stroked its head, her fingers brushed against something metallic around its neck.

It was a delicate sapphire collar. Exquisitely crafted, it clearly cost a small fortune.

Clara paused, a sudden realization washing over her. She looked down at the tiny creature mewling in her arms. Up close, the kitten was a near-perfect replica of Snowball, the stray from the park.

The truth clicked into place.

The kitten couldn't have climbed the stairs on its own. Someone had purposefully brought it to her door.

And there was only one person it could be.

Clara's expression cooled. Cradling the kitten against her chest, she headed straight back downstairs.

Sure enough, the moment she stepped out of the lobby, she spotted him leaning against the sleek black Maybach parked nearby.

Julian stood in the falling snow, wearing a tailored black overcoat that accentuated his broad, powerful frame. In the icy night, he looked breathtakingly arrogant and utterly unapproachable.

He was already looking at her. His dark, fathomless eyes held a terrifying mix of intensity and predatory gentleness that was practically intoxicating.

He was waiting right there, fully confident she would come down.

Clara frowned, deeply resenting this kind of calculated entanglement.

She marched straight up to him. Even though she was already attached to the tiny creature, she shoved the kitten back toward his chest.

"Here is your cat. If you saved them, then you take care of them. Don't bring them to me. We are broken up!"

She didn't bother asking how he knew she had been caring for the strays. Perhaps he had followed her and seen it for himself.

It wouldn't be the first time he had used surveillance tactics to keep tabs on her.

What shocked her was the fact that he was willing to waste his precious time hunting down stray kittens just for her.

How incredibly out of character.

A sudden, bitter ache bloomed in Clara's chest, but she quickly suppressed it, refusing to dwell on the implications. She turned to walk away.

Julian caught the kitten securely in one hand and used the other to gently, yet immovably, wrap around her wrist. With a forceful tug masquerading as tenderness, he pulled her flush against his chest.

He stared down at her cold, guarded face, his eyes heavy with intent.

Instead of addressing her rejection, he murmured, "I remember you love cats. You were always sneaking out to feed the strays."

Bringing up the past.
