Too Good for You The Ex-Wife You Lost novel Chapter 222

Arthur arrived outside Chloe's room. When he saw several people standing guard at the door, he asked politely, "Hello, I'm here to see Ms. Quinn."

In today's qualifying round, the substitute racer's performance had been rather mediocre. Once again, the Stonegate Racing Team ended up in last place.

In the past, this had been normal. But ever since Noelle took first place for them last time, they were no longer willing to remain at the back.

Complaints had begun to surface within the team. No matter what, Arthur had to come and ask Noelle for clarification. He didn't believe Noelle would skip the qualifying just to throw a little tantrum.

Juned's expression was grave. "Sorry, Mr. Haberkorn has ordered that no one is to disturb Ms. Quinn."

Arthur frowned and was about to say something when a pained groan came from inside the room. It sounded like someone enduring excruciating agony. He listened carefully and realized it was Noelle's voice.

"What is Mr. Haberkorn doing to Miss Quinn?"

Arthur's expression hardened. "Are you secretly detaining Ms. Quinn?! If you don't give me an explanation, I'll call the police immediately and have Coach Landaal handle this!"

He'd been saying it all along. There had to be a reason Noelle wasn't competing.

He never imagined that she was actually suffering inside.

Juned tried to explain, "That's not the case. Mr. Haberkorn said once it's over, he'll naturally give you all an explanation, but for now, please don't disturb them."

"Ms. Quinn is a racer on our national team. If anything happens to her, it concerns all of us! I must know the truth!" Arthur's voice was firm and resonant. He wasn't afraid of Hunter's power.

He was more concerned about whether his teammate was really in trouble.

Just as he was about to call the police and have someone break down the door, the door opened.

Hunter stood in the doorway, expressionless. "Come in."

Arther glanced at Juned, then went inside with a frown.

The sight before him shocked him.

Noelle lay on the bed, appearing to have passed out. The bedsheet had been torn to shreds, and Hunter's forearms were covered in scratches and bite marks.

Noticing Arthur's gaze, Hunter said coolly, "Someone poisoned her, causing total muscle weakness. To avoid causing panic among everyone, she insisted that I keep the truth hidden.

Arthur's heart lurched.

He knew it. Noelle would never miss a competition without a reason!

"Then all this…"

Arthur looked at the torn, shredded bedsheets. Hunter said coldly, "She wants to return to the track, so she injected a relieving agent. But the drug makes her feel like she's being gnawed all over by wild animals. She just fainted from the pain."

Over here, when it came to Noelle's enemies, Maxine was the only one who came to mind.

But how did Maxine make a move, and what poison did she use?

He had no idea.

When Arthur went downstairs, he saw that Maxine was hosting a banquet for the Stonegate Racing Team.

Supposedly, it was to console everyone.

Looking at the group, drunk and staggering all over the place, Arthur flew into a rage. "All of you, get up! The main race is tomorrow! What are you doing here?"

Maxine walked up to Arthur, putting on a pitiful look. "Mr. Matterson, please don't scold them. They're only drowning their sorrows in alcohol because they're upset. If Ms. Quinn had competed today, our ranking wouldn't have fallen to last place."

She sighed. "If you have to blame someone, blame Ms. Quinn for being too self-righteous. That's why everyone's disgruntled."

Arthur's gaze was like a cold knife stabbing toward Maxine. "Ms. Clarkson, this is an internal matter for our team. There's no need for you to interfere."

Maxine shrank back, not understanding why Arthur's attitude toward her had changed so drastically.

Other teammates grumbled, "Arthur, Ms. Clarkson's right! Ms. Quinn skipped qualifying because she wanted to see us make fools of ourselves. We lost, and she's hiding in her room, refusing to come out. Who knows how happy she is, secretly laughing at us!"
