Hunter's men only needed one day to find out the culprit behind it all.
"The poison was administered by Maxine. This toxin stimulates the nerves through a combo of essential oils and aromatherapy, causing muscle weakness. Over time, it leads to muscle atrophy. If it weren't for Chandler, you'd be bedridden for the rest of your life."
Hunter's eyes were filled with murderous intent. "I'm going to settle this score with Maxine."
Noelle slowly got up. Her body had endured far too much torment in just one day. She even felt as if her body no longer belonged to her.
Still, aside from some lingering soreness, she already felt much better than in the morning. At the very least, the muscle weakness was gone.
She got out of bed, and Hunter supported her.
"Given the Clarkson family's capabilities, it's impossible for them to obtain a poison that hasn't even appeared on the market yet. Hunter, do you know where she got it?"
Noelle turned her head to look at him.
Hunter sneered. "Who else could it be, other than the Haberkorn family?"
Noell, however, felt that was unlikely. "No matter how capable Laura is, she's only a branch of the Haberkorn family. If it were some low-grade, underhanded drug, that might be possible. But a top-tier toxin like this? I don't think it came from her."
"You mean, it's someone else?"
Hunter narrowed his eyes, thinking carefully. "I've investigated everyone Maxine has been in contact with these past few days. Her social network is complicated, but after narrowing it down, no one else has a grudge against you, nor the ability to source a poison of this level."
Hunter had begun investigating the poisoning immediately. He also knew the Clarkson family didn't have the resources to find something like this, which was why he suspected the Haberkorns.
"Besides, Maxine's appearance this time was coordinated with the Haberkorns. She came with a mission."
Hunter had uncovered chat logs between Maxine and Laura. There were mentions of the poison in them.
Therefore, other than the Haberkorns, Hunter couldn't think of anyone else who would poison Noelle.
A figure flashed through Noelle's mind. She gripped Hunter's arm tightly, her voice hoarse. Do you think this poison could have been given to Maxine by Anne?"
Hunter denied it. "Impossible."
If Anne had provided the poison, how devastated would Noelle be?
Her once most beloved student, the one she poured all her resources into training, would ultimately use this kind of poison to harm her?
Noelle shook her head. "Nothing's impossible. She's now Nancy's disciple and has long taken a dislike to me. Every time we meet, she mocks me. She hates me and hates that I didn't compete in the Tempest Cup back then. So, it's very possible she'd help Nancy go after me."
Her face was a bit pale. "Nancy has always been at odds with us. She's tried to get rid of me more than once. Given her background and methods, finding a toxin like this wouldn't be difficult."
Seeing her agitation, Hunter comforted her. "I'll investigate this carefully. I'll personally interrogate Maxine and make her confess who's behind her."
Noelle shook her head. "She probably won't talk. If she wants to protect the Clarkson family, there's no way she'll say anything."
