Chapter 107
Iris’s POV
Shane was waiting just outside the training grounds, leaning against the wall.
“So,” he drawled, pushing off the fence. “How did it go? Did Lucas chew you out?”
I shook my head, still in shock. “No. He said nothing. He barely even glanced at my hands.”
Shane frowned. “Nothing? At all?”
“Nothing.” I released a humorless laugh. “Can you believe that? Lucas saw my fully healed hands, and he didn’t say a damn thing.”
shane furrowed in confusion. “Are you sure he saw it?”
I gave him a look. “You know Lucas. The man who notices if I twitch wrongly during training. He doesn’t miss anything. There’s no way he didn’t see.”
He tilted his head thoughtfully. “Hmm. Then maybe he’s saving it.”
“Saving it?” I asked, throwing my hands up in exasperation.
Shane smirked. “Yeah. You know, letting you sweat it out before he drops the hammer. That’s how Lucas does, like the Chloe stuff. He allowed you to stress over it, because it gave him joy.”
I groaned loudly, dragging a hand down my face. ‘Great. So instead of ripping the bandage off now, he’s just going to torture me with the anticipation.”
“Pretty much,” Shane said, far too amused.
I shot him a glare, but he only grinned wider.
“Lucas is a sadist.” I mumbled.
Shane shrugged. “You won’t hear me argue.”
Suddenly, Shane stared at me. I frowned, opening my mouth to ask.
But after a pause, he nodded. “Well… you look better. You no longer look like a casualty from
war.”
“}
I raised an eyebrow. “Thanks…I guess. Was that even a compliment?”
“Don’t get used to it.” His grin returned. “But it does mean one thing. Our training sessions are back on.”
My stomach dropped. “No.”
“Yes,” he said firmly. “We’ll resume this afternoon.”

I groaned loudly, throwing my head back. “Why do you hate me?”
Shane snorted. “Hate you? Please. This is me showing affection. If I hated you, I would have told Lucas all the shit you say about him behind his back.”
“Wow. Thanks for the love,” I muttered dryly.
“You’re welcome.” He patted my shoulder with a smug smile.
I swatted his hand away with a glare. “Afternoon training. Really?”
“Really,” he confirmed, his grin widening. “You were the one who begged me to train you, remember?”
“Well I’ve changed my mind,” I shot back.
laughed. “Too late,”
I stared at him in disbelief. “You actually enjoy this, don’t you? Torturing me?”
“Of course,” Shane said cheerfully. “It’s the highlight of my day.”
I groaned again, but this time, I couldn’t help the small laugh that escaped my lips.
As I followed him away from the training grounds, I couldn’t stop glancing down at my hands.
As we turned the hallway we saw Jasmine approaching us from the other end.
Immediately her eyes landed on us, they lit up. “Shane!” she called, jogging towards us.
I stuffed both hands deep into my pockets and shot Shane a warning look. Do not say one word about my hands.
Jasmine stopped in front of him, grinning maniacally. “I heard what happened with Chloe, how you showed her who’s boss, when she tried to mess with Iris.”
Shane raised an eyebrow in amusement.. “The walls really have ears.
I narrowed my eyes. “How did you even hear about that?”
“Asher,” Jasmine said, still grinning. “He said it was epic. According to him, it was the best thing he had seen in a long time.”
Shane chuckled.
I rolled my eyes. “Great. Now you’ve inflated his head.”
Jasmine laughed and looped her arm through mine. “Come on, Iris. Tell me everything that happened. Leave nothing out.”
“I thought Asher told you everything.” I asked.

She shrugged. “Doesn’t matter. I want to hear it again from another point of view.”
“You really don’t like Chloe, do you?” I couldn’t help but ask.
Jasmine tilted her head with an innocent smile on her face. “Of course I like her. The same way I love stepping on bear traps.”
I rolled my eyes, trying to tug my arm free. “You’re ridiculous.”
She just laughed, tightening her arm on mine.
