Chapter 129
Iris’s POV
Chloe and Shane were waiting in the hallway. Chloe was leaning against the wall, her arms folded and a sour look on her face, while Shane was standing opposite her with his arms crossed.
The moment I stepped out, Chloe straightened and gave me a long, hard glare.
“Well,” she said, her voice dripping with false sweetness. “Thank the goddess you’re leaving. If you had stayed one more day, I would have made your life a living hell for what you pulled in there.”
I didn’t bother replying.
Shane replied instead. “Oh, please,” he drawled. “You’re just bitter that the Alpha made it clear how dispensable you are.”
Chloe’s eyes flared. “Excuse me?”
“You heard me,” Shane said, his voice was flat.
Her jaw tightened. “When I become Luna, I will make you pay
for
your disrespect and
Before she could continue, a loud crash rang out from inside Rowan’s office, like a chair being flipped over or something heavy hitting the floor.
Chloe’s eyes widened. Whatever she was saying died in her throat. Without another word, she spun and rushed back into the office.
I couldn’t help glancing at the doors as curiosity tugged at me. But I pushed it down. That wasn’t my business anymore.
Shane shook his head and gestured down the hall. “Come on.”
We walked in silence until we were far away from the office.
“So?” Shane asked finally. “How did it go?”
I let out a shaky breath. “It was nerve-wracking,” I admitted. “But it’s done. send someone tonight to take me.”
Shane gave me a sad smile. “I’ll sure as hell miss you.”
Tears welled up in my eyes, and a lump rose in my throat again. “I’ll miss you too.”

“I wish you didn’t have to go,” he said quietly.
I had no answer for that, so I just gave him a small, grateful smile.
When we reached my room, Jasmine was back, and already waiting on the bed, her legs were crossed and she looked impatient.
“What took you guys so long?” she asked, her eyes flicked between me and Shane.” Well?”
I closed the door behind us and leaned against it with a sigh. “I told him. He’s sending someone tonight.”
Jasmine’s shoulders dropped and she sighed. “So it’s really happening.”
“Yeah.” My voice shook.
She stood, came over and pulled me into a firm hug. “I’m going to miss you,” she murmured into my hair.
I hugged her back, inhaling deeply. “I’ll miss you too.”
Shane stayed near the window with his hands shoved into his pockets. “Is there any chance I can convince you to stay?” he asked lightly with a soft smile on his face.
I pulled back from Jasmine and shook my head softly. “No, Shane. I don’t think so.”
Shane nodded in understanding. “I get it. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t suck.”
A quiet laugh escaped me. “Yeah.”
Jasmine groaned. “Now Rowan is going to be in an even worse mood than before.”
I lifted an eyebrow. “What? What do I have to do with his mood?”
She scoffed and flopped back on the bed. “Haven’t you noticed? For weeks Rowan has been in a foul mood. I’m his sister, and even I avoid him sometim can be scary when he’s like that.”
I blinked, caught off guard. I hadn’t noticed anything. Probably because I had ba seen him since the morning we argued.
But I wasn’t about to be vain enough to think his mood had anything to do with me, no matter how much the timing fit.
Jasmine sat up with a scowl on her face. “The only person who dares to stick around him when he’s like that is Chloe. She stands there, smiling like some perfect little Luna-to-be, and just swallows every harsh word he throws at her with fake, sugary

smiles that anyone with eyes can see through.”
Her frown deepened. “It’s nauseating.”
“Sounds exhausting,” Shane muttered from the window.
“Exactly,” Jasmine said. “But it probably explains why Rowan tolerates her. She doesn’t push back or avoid him. She just takes it, hoping it will make him like her more.”
She snorted. “As if that’s possible.”
A small, sharp pang twisted in my chest before I could stop it. I shoved the feeling down fast. Whatever Rowan did, or whoever he chose to keep near him, wasn’t my concern anymore.
Jasmine tilted her head at me with a knowing look in her eyes. “Don’t you think he’s lashing out because of you?”
I forced a short laugh. “No. Of course not.”
Her eyebrows rose. “Because I noticed you two weren’t communicating this few weeks.”
I forced my face to remain blank. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. Rowan is an alpha, and he’s busy with alpha duties.”
Jasmine gave me an unconvinced scoff. “If my guesses are right, then it means just like I said, Rowan’s mood will get worse.”
Shane and I rolled our eyes almost in unison
