Too Late Alpha The Mate He Never Wanted (Iris and Eric) novel Chapter 133

Chapter 133

Rowan flinched, just slightly, but he recovered fast. “You think I would ignore my own child?”

“You think it’s that simple?” I shot back, heat rising to my face. “You and I, we made a mistake. One night. That’s all. I won’t let an innocent child grow up in the shadow of a mistake.”

“Stop calling it a mistake!” Rowan’s voice snapped like a whip, sharper than I had ever heard it.

I froze.

His chest heaved. His eyes were dark, burning. “Do you really think that night meant nothing? That I meant nothing?”

“I-“My throat tightened. “It doesn’t matter what it meant.”

“The hell it doesn’t.” He jabbed a finger toward me, then dragged his hand through his hair like he was controlling himself from doing something. “You think you can decide what it was for me? That you can label it like it was some accident we can just forget?”

“It was an accident,” I said. “I wasn’t thinking clearly. And now there’s a baby involved. I’m not letting this child grow up in this pack like some illegitimate child. I know what that does to a kid. I won’t do that to mine.”

Rowan took a sharp breath. “Do you think I would let anyone make my child feel unwanted?”

I held

I my ground. “Your intentions don’t matter, Rowan. Reality does. The reality is you’re about to marry Chloe. My child will never be first. Maybe not even second. And I won’t have him or her grow up begging for scraps of attention.”

Something flickered in his eyes, but it disappeared quickly. “You have no right to decide what kind of father I will be.”

“And you have no right to tell me where to raise my child,” I shot back.

Silence fell between us. We were both breathing hard, the air in the room was tense and heavy.

Finally I broke the silence, my voice firm. “I am leaving, Rowan. Whether you like it or not.”

His nostrils flared. “You’re not-”

“I’m not a prisoner here,” I cut in sharply. ” can leave when I choose. And I will. So you have two options.” I took a step closer so he could see I meant every word. Either you get someone to lead me out of here safely within the next twenty-four hours, or I’ll walk out myself. Risks or no risks.”

His eyes widened. “You wouldn’t-”

“Try me.”

For a long moment he just stared at me, his chest rising and falling. Then he stepped back, shaking his head as if he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

“It’s too dangerous,” he said finally, his voice was quiet. “Not just for you-” He swallowed hard. “-for the baby. You know what’s out there. You think I would let you walk into that carrying my child?”

My glare sharpened. “Well, I guess you have a choice to make now, don’t you?”

He clenched his jaw so hard a muscle twitched. For a second it looked like he might explode. His hands clenched and unclenched, like he needed something to hold on

He opened his mouth to say something, but a sharp knock cut him off. “Iris?” Shane’s voice came through the door, filled with concern. “I heard yelling. Are you okay?”

Rowan gritted his teeth, and his eyes flashed with annoyance. He turned toward t door, his shoulders were stiff.

“I’m fine,” I called out.

Rowan gave me a dark look, then he stormed across the room, yanked the door open and brushed past Shane without a word.
