Chapter 134
Iris’s POV
Shane’s eyes widened even more. “He knows what?”
I swallowed, my throat was still tight. “He knows I’m pregnant.”
His jaw practically dropped. “Wait-what? How-how did he find out?”
“I told him myself,” I admitted quietly.
Shane blinked fast, like he
You actually told Rowan 2 was trying to be sure he’d heard me right. “You told him?
I nodded, rubbing my hand over my face. “Yes. I-I just snapped. He was pushing and asking and begging me to stay, and it just exploded out of my mouth.”
“And he knows the child is his?” Shane asked carefully.
“Yes,” I said firmly. “I made that very clear.
Shane released a long sigh and leaned back against the doorframe. “And… I’m guessing he didn’t take it well? Well guess what, that’s too bad for him. He doesn’t deserve you or the child.”
I gave a shaky half-laugh that was humourless. “He took it well enough. He was shocked at first, of course. But then…” I hesitated, thinking back to the pleading look in Rowan’s eyes. “He wanted me to stay.”
“He said he would do anything to keep me here.” I sighed as the memory of his quie pleas echoed in my head. “He wants me to stay in the pack, raise the baby here. He wants to be a part of the child’s life.’
Shane studied me. “So are you…staying?” He asked cautiously.
I shook my head quickly. “No, it doesn’t change anything. I’m leaving.”
“And you’re sure about that?”
“I am,” I said firmly, though my voice shook. “I told him I want to raise my child in a stable and better environment. And that’s what I will do.”
Shane sighed, but said nothing.
“I just hope he keeps his word and sends someone to lead me out safely. If he doesn’t
“I trailed off, chewing on my lower lip.

Shane straightened. “If he doesn’t, what will you do?”
“I’m afraid I might have to take drastic measures,” I admitted quietly. “But I’m not staying here if it means my child grows up in the middle of this mess.”
Shane’s eyes softened with worry. “Don’t do anything reckless, Iris.”
“I’ll be careful,” I promised, though my stomach twisted.
He folded his arms across his chest with a firm look. “If he doesn’t send someone, I will take you myself.”
I blinked, then I gaped at him in surprise. I wasn’t expecting that. “Really? But that’s going to cause lots of problems for you. He’s your alpha.”
He swallowed, nodding in agreement. “Yes, but I won’t sleep soundly if I let you go on your own. No matter the consequences.”
Tears welled up in my eyes, and before I knew it, I threw my hands around his shoulders and hugged him tightly as I sobbed my eyes out.
I sniffled against his shoulder. Damn these pregnancy hormones.
Shane froze at first, clearly not expecting it. Then he chuckled softly, as his arms finally came around me.
“You’re probably one of the best people I’ve ever met,” I said thickly, my voice breaking. “Really. I don’t know what I would do without you.”
He grinned. “Careful,” he teased. “Don’t blow up my ego.”
Despite the tears, a small laugh escaped me.
He gave my shoulders a squeeze and stepped back. “Alright, enough mushy su Get some rest while you can. I’ll check in later.”
I nodded, still sniffling as he turned and headed for the door, still grinning.
By the time Shane left and I finally lay back down, my body felt heavy. When I finally closed my eyes to sleep, it didn’t come easily.
My mind wouldn’t stop spinning with so many thoughts. Rowan’s plea, the baby, the risk of leaving, the danger outside the pack’s borders.
When I finally dragged myself out of bed, it was morning. My head pounded from lack of sleep, and every muscle felt heavy.
