The room seemed to shrink around me as guilt settled in my stomach. Pride fought within me, I wouldn’t let this bastard make me feel small. “You don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“I know enough,” Rowan said flatly. “You abandoned her.”
“I did not abandon her.” I snapped, my chest heaving. “You don’t know anything about our marriage.”
“Then enlighten me,” Rowan challenged me, folding his arms again. “Tell me why she would rather face death in the woods than stay in your pack.”

Rage burned through my chest, I wanted to punch him, to wipe that cold look off his face. But he was an Alpha, and we both knew a public fight would destroy the alliance my pack needed.
“You won’t see Iris,” Rowan said coldly, “until I say so.”
My fists tightened and I gritted my teeth. “You can’t-”
“I can,” he said, stepping closer. “And I will”
The air between us was charged with tension. The warriors around the hall shifted, getting ready to jump in if either of us made a move.
“You claim she’s your wife,” Rowan cut in sharply. “Correct?”
“Yes,” I snapped.
“Then tell me,” his voice darkened, “Why wasn’t she eager to run into your arms when she saw you? Why did she run away as if she wanted nothing to do with you?”
The question hit like a punch to the chest. I opened my mouth, but no words came.
Rowan didn’t wait for a response. “You hurt her.”
