Too Late Alpha The Mate He Never Wanted (Iris and Eric) novel Chapter 75

Chapter 75

Iris’s POV

Chloe stood with her arms crossed, sneering at me. Behind her, two girls stood like bodyguards. Both of them were dressed almost similar, with smug expressions on their faces. They looked like duplicates of Chloe.

I tightened my grip on the box of boots. My chest sank. Of all the people I could’ve run into today.

“Some things,” Chloe said with venom dripping from her words, glancing at the box in my hands, “are too fine for strays.”

The words cut through me more than I expected, but I forced my expression to stay neutral. Don’t react. Don’t give her the satisfaction.

I glanced around. Our confrontation was getting noticed. A few pack members were pausing. They glanced at Chloe and her followers, then at me. I didn’t need this attention. Especially after the Lucas incident earlier. Jasmine was supposed to meet me here after she was done from another store close by.

Shane was behind me. He immediately stepped forward, trying to intervene, and I was about to relax. Thank goodness he was here.

But Chloe noticed him, and she smirked, raising her eyebrows in amusement. “Careful,” she said sharply. “We don’t want someone to forget their place. Or have you forgotten who I am?”

Shane stiffened, clenching his jaw. He didn’t move, but I could see as his body tensed instantly.

“I’m the future Luna,” Chloe continued, “You wouldn’t dare interfere if you value your position, Shane. Remember your place or I will report you to Alpha Rowan for disrespecting me.”

Shane froze. He looked at me briefly, then at Chloe. I could see him calculating. He wasn’t Asher or Jasmine who could easily call out Chloe’s bullshit. The beta, and the alpha’s sister had higher status.

I hated how she could easily intimidate him, and it was obvious that he wasn’t the only one. The onlookers were only watching from afar, none could say anything.

I shifted slightly, holding the shoebox. “It’s fine, Shane,” I said softly, trying to stop him from stepping in. I didn’t want a scene here, in front of all these people.

Chloe glanced back at me. “Oh, how sweet. The little outsider is trying to act brave. I don’t know who you think you are. You just came from nowhere, and suddenly, you feel like you own everything.”

I felt my stomach tighten. “Really Chloe? All this drama for a boot?” I muttered, trying to keep my voice calm.

Chloe laughed humorlessly, “How dare you talk back to me? You are nothing, just a charity case, a pity project. Rowan picked you up from the dirt.”

She leaned in slightly, “Tell me, Iris, what made you leave your previous pack? Were you rejected? Abandoned? Unwanted?”

“Oh my goodness, savage!” One of her followers exclaimed.

And they all laughed.

I resisted the urge to react.

I forced my jaw to relax. I refused to let her see me flinch.

Whispers rippled through the onlookers. I could feel several eyes on us, waiting for the drama to unfold. No. I had gotten enough attention for one day.

“I don’t have time for this.” My voice was quiet, but firm. I turned toward the exit, holding the shoebox.
