Chapter 76
Her eyes narrowed. “Don’t use that tone with me. You think because Rowan gave you a place to stay and food, you belong here? You don’t.”
“You must be really insecure,” I muttered, rolling my eyes at her.
Her brows shot up. “Excuse me?”
“Picking fights with strangers over shoes?” I raised the box slightly. “That’s… sad.”
Gasps echoed in the crowd. Chloe’s face flushed red, and her mouth gaped open in outrage.
“You think you’re clever?” she hissed, stepping closer. “I could end you with one word. Everyone in this pack listens to me. One day I’ll be their Luna, and when that day comes, people like you will suffer my wrath.”
I didn’t blink. I kept my eyes on her. “You don’t scare me.” I replied firmly.
Her eyes flashed with rage and disbelief. For a split second, I thought she might actually lunge at me.
Instead, Chloe smirked, tilting her head. “We’ll see.”
Before I could react, she reached out and shoved the shoebox against my chest. The edge of the box brushed my bad hand, causing me to flinch.
The box tumbled from my arms and hit the ground.
Gasp rippled through the crowd again. My cheeks burned with anger, but I didn’t bend to pick them up. I just stared at Chloe, clenching my jaw.
She smirked. “Pick them up, mutt. Let everyone see you grovel.”
The girls at her sides snickered.
An elderly woman shook her head slowly in displeasure.
Someone in the crowd muttered. “Oh poor girl. Look what they’re doing to her.”
I swallowed hard. I could feel my frustrations bubbling up. I wanted to leave, but Chloe and her friends had
cornered me.
Chloe smiled wide like she had already won. “What’s wrong?” she cooed. “Don’t you have anything to say? Cat got your tongue?”
Anger boiled within me. I gritted my teeth, taking a deep breath.
“Move.” I said coldly.
Chloe’s smile widened. “Or what?”
“You punch like an amateur. You curled your thumb inside your fingers. Never do that. You’ll break it every single time. Keep it outside like this. And don’t punch with your knuckles bent. You need to align them properly.”
After I punched him and broke my fist.
Chloe laughed mockingly, tightening her grip on my broken fist. “What are you going to-”
I twisted my body, and swung my good fist with all the force I could get.
Bam.
The sound echoed through the store. My knuckles collided with Chloe’s nose. Her head snapped to the side, and she staggered back, stumbling into one of her friends.
Gasps erupted, and the whole crowd froze.
There was silence. The kind that came before the chaos.
Chloe’s two friends stood wide-eyed in shock with their mouths open.
Then the whispers started.
“She hit her-”
