Two Can Play (Celeste and Dominic) novel Chapter 616

My jaw tightened.

"Everyone knows you're the whore who slept with her best friend's husband." She shrugged, delicate and cruel. "So who is this pitiful act for?"

"Celeste."

"As for buying Ford Biosciences, don't think too highly of yourself." She picked up her coffee and took a sip. "I just don't want my fiancé, Dominic Ford, to feel sick each time he sees his name associated with something that belongs to you. If I buy it, I'll change it to a mall or something. Anything, as long as my Dominic's name isn't on it. Getting his name off that property will be one of my wedding gifts to him."

The heat climbed up my neck, my hands balling into fists in my lap.

"So only one of two things needs to happen here." She set her cup down and folded her hands on the table. "You bring the document, I read it, and we both sign. If that's not going to happen, I walk out of here, because unlike you, I have better things to do with my time."

I stared at her, my face burning red, my fists clenched so tight my nails bit into my palms. I wanted to scream, wanted to knock that smug smile right off her face, wanted to grab my bag and walk out and never look back.

But I needed the money. I needed it more than I needed my pride.

With gritted teeth, I reached into my bag, pulled out the document, and placed it on the table.

Celeste picked it up and read through it slowly, taking her sweet time. "Everything looks good."

She signed it with a flourish.

She copied out my account number from the document, tucked the paper into her own bag, and tapped at her phone. The transfer notification landed on my screen at that exact instant. Two hundred thousand dollars.

She got up, drained the rest of her coffee in one long swallow, and slid her shades over her eyes. "It was nice doing business with you, Miss Seraphine Eagle."

She started for the door.
