"I don't understand what you're saying." I tried to sit up, alarmed, and he pressed me gently back down.
"Relax. Don't stress yourself too much, Seraphine. Everything will be fine, okay?"
"Did you just say you paid five hundred thousand?"
He nodded.
"But I understand you don't have that kind of money."
He scratched the back of his head, looking away. "Yeah, I didn't have it. But when I brought you here, you were unconscious. I had to go out and look for the money. It wasn't easy. I did something I wasn't supposed to do and got the five hundred thousand you needed." He looked at me then, earnest and raw. "As long as you're alive, Seraphine, nothing else matters."
"But what exactly is wrong with me?"
At that moment, the door opened and a doctor walked in, a folder tucked under his arm. Hearing my question, he came to the foot of the bed and began to speak.
"Miss Eagle, I'm sorry to inform you that you are suffering from VHS."
I furrowed my brow. "And what might that be? I've never heard of any sickness called VHS."
The doctor sighed and pulled a chair closer, sitting down so he was level with me. "VHS is Virellian Hemorrhagic Syndrome. It's an extremely rare, sexually transmitted infectious disease caused by a pathogen known as the Virellian agent. It has an unusually short incubation period. This means that once you've had sex with someone who is infected, the first twenty four hours will leave you feeling normal, or a little fatigued.
But in the next forty eight hours, the pathogen begins attacking the vascular tissues surrounding the reproductive and urinary systems. And if left alone, between that forty eight and seventy two hours, severe symptoms erupt in the body of an infected woman, potentially progressing to systemic complications, loss of consciousness, and even death.

I hope Tasha is let off and helped by this detective and gets away from all this maybe a twist for this novel is she gets on the good side of things and gets away from that life completely even if she has to separate herself from Scarlett but it appears Tasha gets hurt by Scarlett’s and sparrow’s stupidity as she’s blamed for Scarlett’s decisions...
Her life is ruined and Scarlett’s been living a luxurious life through it all...
I officially hate everyone for hurting Tasha and allowing things to happen to her. This whole Sparrow and Scarlett situation is some BS....
It’s a bit stupid that as powerful and ruthless sparrow is he and Scarlett sure do a lousy job of protecting and having guard on Tasha. Like how did all of this happen to her if he was supposed to be protecting her based on the contract??...
