Shaun was exactly where I'd left him, arms folded beside the car, patient as furniture.
I flashed him a smile. "Have you been waiting for too long?"
"Don't ask me that." He opened my door for me. "Even if you wanted to spend the entire day in there, it's my job to wait for you."
"Thank you, Shaun."
I got in and buckled up. "Now I can go to the hospital."
"I should take you straight to the hospital?" He asked.
"No. A quick stop at home first, to drop my gym things and change. Then the hospital."
"All right."
He drove, and I rested my forehead briefly against the cool of the window. At home, I told him I'd be two minutes and I actually managed it. Bag dropped, clothes swapped for something simple and soft, and I caught my reflection on the way past the mirror and paused.
The scars around my neck had faded now, that an ordinary neckline was safe to wear. No turtleneck required, and thank God for that, because Scarlett had developed a hunter's instinct for that particular top. She'd asked about it twice already, and Scarlett asking twice meant Scarlett had already formed a theory.
I hurried back out, and Shaun drove me to the hospital.
I pushed open the door to Scarlett's room and stopped for half a second in the doorway.
Sparrow was there. Sitting beside her bed, jacket off, sleeve rolled, holding her cup of water like it was a personal duty.
Guilt rolled through me, slow and heavy. He'd told me this morning his whole day was spoken for, hands full, responsibilities stacked to the ceiling. And yet here he sat, refusing to leave her alone. He wouldn't have had to abandon his activities if I'd been here.
He'd traded Scarlett for whatever mountain of work was waiting for him, and I'd traded her for a fitness lie.
Sparrow turned, and his eyes moved over my face. Then he turned back to Scarlett as though he hadn't seen a thing. That was somehow worse than a remark.
"Tasha!" Scarlett lit up like a window at Christmas. "Finally! I've missed you!"

The readers' comments on the novel: Two Can Play (Celeste and Dominic)
Agent Frost better teach Tasha how to protect herself if anything gets out of hand or if she’s ever in danger or forced again...
I need some good news for Tasha. Special Agent hear her out and don’t let her get back into that life. Do I hear a romance or someone Tasha can truly count on besides Scarlett??...
I hope Tasha is let off and helped by this detective and gets away from all this maybe a twist for this novel is she gets on the good side of things and gets away from that life completely even if she has to separate herself from Scarlett but it appears Tasha gets hurt by Scarlett’s and sparrow’s stupidity as she’s blamed for Scarlett’s decisions...
Her life is ruined and Scarlett’s been living a luxurious life through it all...
I officially hate everyone for hurting Tasha and allowing things to happen to her. This whole Sparrow and Scarlett situation is some BS....
It’s a bit stupid that as powerful and ruthless sparrow is he and Scarlett sure do a lousy job of protecting and having guard on Tasha. Like how did all of this happen to her if he was supposed to be protecting her based on the contract??...
More Chapters Please...
I thought it said 10 chapters a day??? It’s been like 2-3 days and no update after chapter 574. The release time is so inconsistent, I have started to just loose interest....
Just find Tasha and get her some help. How did she have sparrow’s men watching her if she really cared so much. Scarlett’s character is so suspect…...
Storyline is interesting it’s just so much sexual content I have to skip through just find out the main context of the story....
