Two Can Play (Celeste and Dominic) novel Chapter 677

"I think Sparrow found out something. I'm not sure. Daniel, we might not have much time left to find the bombs."

"Understood. Thank you for telling me." Papers shuffled somewhere on his end. "Has Big Bryan contacted you at all?"

"No. Nothing. He hasn't called, he hasn't texted, and now he's blocked you from booking me. I'm worried. What if he's booked me with someone else? What if he's handing me off to strangers?"

"Then you tell me the moment it happens, and I'll handle it."

"How? Handle it how?"

"Tasha." His voice dropped into that calm register that somehow always landed. "If it comes to that, I'll protect you. Just breathe."

The day swallowed us after that. Shopping bags accumulated in the car until the boot lid barely shut, then the salon, where Scarlett had a team of stylists get both our hair done.

And through all of it, I checked my phone. In the fitting room, in the salon chair under the dryer, at the restaurant table between courses. Waiting for a call, a text, anything with the word Monster glowing on the screen.

Nothing. The whole day came and went and Big Bryan stayed silent as a grave.

That night I lay awake for a long time, staring at the ceiling, wondering what a man like that did with a day of silence, and I fell asleep hoping tomorrow would cough him up.

It didn't.

I woke to a blank screen. No calls, no messages, no missed anything. I called Daniel from the bathroom with the tap running.

"Still nothing," I told him. "Two days, Daniel. Complete silence. I don't know what he's doing."

"Bryan hasn't left his hotel room since the last time you saw him. My people are watching. He's planning something, we just can't see what yet."
