Beatrice, however, was still lost in her memories, refusing to let go of her hand. "Seraphina, the food you made really warmed my heart. Could you cook for me again sometime?"
Seraphina smiled affectionately. "Of course. Just let me know before you come over, and I'll prep everything."
Satisfied, the old lady finally let go and stood up. She stared at Seraphina for another moment before turning toward the door. After taking two steps, she suddenly stopped, as if she had just remembered something, and pointed directly at Gideon.
"You two, add each other on your phones," she demanded righteously.
Seraphina instinctively waved her hands. "That's not necessary, really—"
But Gideon had already pulled out his phone, unlocked it, pulled up his contact QR code, and held it out to her.
Seraphina opened her mouth to object, but seeing the utter seriousness on the old lady's face and the phone hovering in front of her, she reluctantly pulled out her own device and scanned the code.
"Accept the request," Beatrice ordered, actively supervising the exchange.
Seraphina tapped the notification and hit accept.
A new chat window popped up on her screen.
She glanced at it briefly before shoving her phone back into her pocket.
The old lady nodded in satisfaction and finally walked toward the door.
Gideon walked beside her, gently supporting her arm.
Beatrice turned her head and waved. "I'm leaving now, Seraphina. You have to come visit me."
Standing at the doorway, Seraphina nodded. "Take care on your way home."
Gideon guided his grandmother over the threshold.
Just as Seraphina was about to close the door, Gideon abruptly stopped.
He turned his head, his gaze fixing on Seraphina for two or three long seconds.
"Your performance at the recruitment fair today was outstanding."
Seraphina was stunned.
She looked at him, the gears turning in her head.
Gideon Cole had been at the recruitment fair today?
"No," he replied evenly. "I've been looking for you all day."
"Then why did you praise the girl for being outstanding? How would you know she did well?"
Gideon's throat bobbed barely perceptibly.
"On the way over, one of my men sent me a video clip from the fair. I just happened to watch it."
"Oh... you just happened to," the old lady dragged out her words playfully. "You casually watch something, and you actually stop to give a compliment? Since when did you become so friendly?"
Gideon's lips twitched, but in the end, he said nothing.
Beatrice sat up straight and turned to scrutinize him.
"I've never seen you compliment anyone," she pressed.
Gideon remained silent.
The smile on her face deepened. "Tell me the truth, do you have your eye on that girl?"
