She didn't say anything further and turned into the kitchen.
She opened the refrigerator, took note of the plentiful ingredients inside, and formulated a plan.
She pulled out a handful of fine noodles, a tomato, a piece of lean pork, and a few heads of baby bok choy, then found a small clay pot tucked away in a cabinet.
She turned on the stove and got to work.
She sliced the pork paper-thin, tossing it lightly with cooking wine and cornstarch. She peeled and diced the tomato, sautéing it until the rich red oils rendered out, then poured in boiling water. She dropped the noodles in, letting them boil for exactly two minutes before adding the marinated pork and the bok choy. Finally, she finished it off with a tiny pinch of salt and a few drops of sesame oil.
The rich aroma wafted out of the kitchen, floating all the way into the living room.
Beatrice, who had been restlessly rocking back and forth in her wheelchair, immediately sat bolt upright the moment the scent hit her.
"Smells wonderful! So good!"
Catching a whiff of the savory broth, Yara's rigid expression cracked slightly.
Seraphina carried the steaming clay pot out and set it on the table.
The noodles were piping hot, swimming in a clear broth that carried a beautiful, vibrant red tint.
Beatrice excitedly rolled her wheelchair forward, leaned over the pot, inhaled deeply, and narrowed her eyes in pure satisfaction.
Seraphina handed her a pair of silverware. "Grandma, eat slowly. It's hot."
Beatrice took the silverware, scooped up a mouthful of noodles, blew on them hastily, and shoved them into her mouth. After chewing twice, her eyes shot wide open.
"Delicious!"
She grabbed another mouthful, this time not even bothering to blow on them, slurping them down eagerly.
In no time at all, the clay pot was completely empty, the broth practically licked clean.
She set the pot down on the table, leaned back against her wheelchair with absolute satisfaction, and let out a long, happy sigh. "That hit the spot."
The three nutritionists stood there exchanging completely bewildered glances, their skepticism entirely replaced by shock.
Yara walked over, stared at the empty clay pot, then looked at Seraphina. Her lips parted, but she couldn't find the words.
"The grand prize winner of the National Nutritionist Competition five years ago... that was you?"
Seraphina offered a modest smile.
Five years ago, right after getting her certification, she happened to notice the National Nutritionist Competition was accepting entries. She submitted a casual application, and ended up taking first place.
She just never expected that after all these years, someone would still remember it.
Yara was growing visibly frantic with excitement.
"It really is you... Ms. Sienna." Her voice was trembling. Every ounce of her previous professional arrogance had vanished, replaced by an expression of pure, unadulterated reverence.
"The Jade Shrimp dish you prepared in the finals—the nutritional ratios and the plating design—I still remember it vividly to this day."
The two nutritionists behind her quickly crowded in. "Yara, is this the idol you never stop talking about?"
Yara nodded furiously, looking at Seraphina with profound respect. "Ms. Sienna, you are the entire reason I pursued a career in nutrition."
