Years ago, after graduating from college and struggling to find a job, she decided to pursue further education in nutrition.
Once she mastered the field, it not only solved her employment issues, but her relentless drive to continue advancing allowed her to become highly successful and earn immense respect in the industry.
She explained that she had always held onto a specific quote from Master Sienna.
"There are no noble or lowly professions. No matter how small the job, as long as it is what you love and you pour your heart into it, you can shine brightly."
"It was because I heard you say that, that I decided to dedicate myself entirely to the nutrition industry." Yara was so excited her eyes were brimming with tears.
Seeing the spark in Yara's eyes, Seraphina felt an indescribable rush of warmth in her chest.
She never imagined that she could have had such a profound impact on someone else's life.
Once again, she was incredibly thankful that, no matter how insignificant she felt over the past six years, she had never fully abandoned her passions and dreams.
The corners of her lips curled up. "You've done a wonderful job."
She turned and gestured toward Beatrice. "Next time you run into a situation like this, remember: always start by cooking something the elderly person actually likes. Getting them to eat is the crucial first step."
This was essentially the masterclass Seraphina had developed after five years of catering to an incredibly picky daughter.
Yara nodded furiously, instantly pulling out a notepad and pen to jot down the advice.
Standing a few steps away, Gideon's gaze rested fully on Seraphina.
The smile on his face was faint, but the habitual layer of ice in his eyes had almost entirely melted away.
Beatrice reached out and tugged lightly on Seraphina's sleeve. "Child, I did a wonderful job too. You need to reward me. You need to stay with me."
Seraphina looked down, met the old woman's expectant, cloudy eyes, and her heart softened.
She crouched down. "Alright, I'll keep Grandma company and chat for a little while longer. Let's go to your room."
Beatrice eagerly agreed.
Seraphina helped the old woman into her bedroom. Along the way, Beatrice smiled so widely the wrinkles around her eyes bunched together, chattering away happily about whatever came to mind.
Seraphina listened quietly, offering soft murmurs of agreement.
After spending a good chunk of time together, Beatrice finally grew tired and drifted into a deep sleep.
The driver dropped her off back at her apartment.
Seraphina kicked off her shoes and was just about to go wash up when her phone screen lit up.
She glanced at it. The caller ID displayed an unsaved number, but she could recite those digits with her eyes closed.
It was Dominic.
Seraphina answered the call.
Dominic's voice instantly came through the speaker. "Seraphina, come out right now. We're going to discuss the details of the divorce in person."
His tone was laced with an entitled, commanding edge, as if Seraphina should be perpetually on standby for him.
Seraphina glanced at the clock on the wall; it was already approaching ten o'clock.
She let out an annoyed breath.
"Mr. Lockwood, it's completely dark out. Even if you don't need to rest, I do. Next time you want to make an appointment, please look at the time."
