The next few days passed in quiet routine.
After that night, Dominic Lockwood didn't call or send any messages.
Seraphina Sinclair went to work every day, diving into her tasks and organizing data.
During her lunch break, she ate sandwiches with her colleagues, chatted about trivial things, and went home in the evening.
This ordinary, repetitive, and even slightly dull routine gave her an incredible sense of grounding.
One day, the intercom on Seraphina's desk rang.
The receptionist told her that someone from the East End project was there to deliver documents.
A moment later, a young woman walked in.
She was petite with a gentle face, her pregnant belly clearly visible.
"Ms. Sinclair, hello. I'm Jenna Reynolds, one of the project managers for the East End. Here's the project acceptance report for your review."
She placed the folder on the desk.
Seraphina took it and glanced at her. "Why did they send you all the way out here when you're pregnant?"
Jenna smiled. "I volunteered to come. I wasn't busy anyway, and running errands is good exercise."
Seraphina smiled, broke the seal, and pulled out the materials.
As she flipped through the pages, her expression relaxed.
"This is excellent work," Seraphina said. "Everything is clearly marked, and even the waste margins are listed separately. Thank you for your hard work on such detailed data."
A faint flush touched Jenna's cheeks. "It's just part of the job."
Seraphina checked the time; it was already their lunch break.
She glanced at the sweat at Jenna's temples and her prominent baby bump, then stood up.
"Come on, let me buy you lunch."
Jenna waved her hands, looking a bit flustered. "Oh, no, that's okay, Ms. Sinclair. I can just grab something on my way back. I don't want to hold you up."
"You're not holding me up, I need to eat too." Seraphina grabbed her purse. "We'll just go to The Velvet Bistro next door. It's only a few steps away, and I'll have a car take you back afterward."
Jenna opened her mouth to protest but ultimately didn't decline. "Then... thank you, Ms. Sinclair."
Seraphina's expression remained icy.
"Then you've proved my point. I have even less reason to greet you."
Yvette choked on her words, her hands curling into tight fists at her sides.
In her memory, Seraphina had always been a total pushover, never daring to talk back to anyone in the Lockwood family. How had she suddenly turned into such a shrew?
This had to be her true colors; her previous docile act must have been entirely fake.
It was the peak lunch rush, and the restaurant was packed. Their commotion had already drawn the attention of the surrounding diners, and several people began whispering.
Yvette's face slowly flushed red.
She was young and cared deeply about her image; no matter how spoiled she was, she couldn't handle being shut down so publicly.
She glared viciously at Seraphina. "You're an absolute bitch!"
After snapping the insult, she spun around and stormed off.
Seraphina couldn't be bothered to entertain her further and headed back to her booth.
