With that, he dashed out the door without a second glance.
Mr. Zane quickly hurried after him.
Dominic stood rooted to the spot, a barely noticeable twitch in his brow.
Cynthia's expression, however, was rapidly crumbling.
He had just finished lecturing her about his high principles and refusing her gift, only to turn around and sprint after someone else to give them presents?
She clutched the strap of her bag tightly, forcing her face to maintain its detached elegance as she spoke softly. "Dominic, who is Dean Vance rushing off to see? That was quite a dramatic exit."
Dominic withdrew his gaze, his tone indifferent. "Probably one of his students."
After he spoke, a thought seemed to cross his mind, and his voice softened slightly. "It's normal for a professor to pass down his notes. He has always cherished real talent and doesn't care for superficial pleasantries. The painting we offered was simply too extravagant, so it makes sense he wouldn't accept it. Don't take it to heart."
Cynthia nodded, deciding not to press the issue.
She shoved the painting back into her bag, her knuckles turning white.
She kept the smile on her face, but hatred boiled in her chest.
The painting she offered was undeniably expensive, but she wasn't blind.
The raw ore Dean Vance had held was of exceptional quality. Its texture and luster were top-tier, the kind of specimen that would easily fetch hundreds of thousands of dollars on the market. It was by no means cheaper than her painting.
Furthermore, what kind of elite student could compel a man like Dean Vance to personally deliver his own research notes?
She had spent her whole life in academia, studying abroad for years, and never once had a mentor been so eager to hand over their life's work.
Cynthia swallowed the churning resentment, pasting on a gentle expression as she linked her arm through Dominic's.
"Let's go. He's busy, so we can always visit another day."
Dominic murmured in agreement, and the two walked out of the office side by side.
Dean Vance sprinted outside to catch Seraphina, but she was nowhere to be found.
Without a second thought, he darted into the campus security booth, grabbed a megaphone, and flicked it on.
"Seraphina Sinclair! Seraphina, have you left the campus yet? Stop right there and wait for me! I'm coming to find you..."
The cart quickly screeched to a halt in front of her. Dean Vance hopped out, clutching the rock and the notebook to his chest, and closed the distance in three strides.
"Here, here, take these! I almost forgot to give them to you."
Taken aback, Seraphina accepted the items. It was a mineral rock about the size of her palm, with sharp edges, clear veining, and a deep, mesmerizing luster under the sunlight.
Her eyes lit up instantly. "Dean Vance, this is a gorgeous specimen."
"Just something I picked up while browsing the markets. It's not worth much, but it caught my eye, and I know you love this kind of thing, so I bought it."
He then shoved the thick notebook into her arms. "These are my nuclear research notes from over the years. There are theories in here you won't find published anywhere. Take it home, flip through it. It'll help with your projects."
Seraphina opened the cover and glanced at a few pages. The paper was yellowed with age, the handwriting meticulous, packed tightly with complex derivations and equations. Some pages were even flagged with colorful sticky notes.
A wave of profound warmth washed over her.
"Dean Vance, this is far too precious. I'll accept the notes, but I can't take the rock."
Dean Vance glared at her playfully. "You're refusing a broken little rock from me? Are you saying this old man has terrible taste?"
