Cynthia stepped up to the podium and began her presentation.
Her voice was composed and her tone steady as she clicked through the slides, speaking eloquently about the data, charts, and deduction processes.
Many of the tech CEOs in the audience whispered among themselves, nodding in approval.
"So young, yet her understanding of nuclear research is so profound. Incredible."
"You can tell she has a solid academic background. Her fundamentals are incredibly strong."
"Mr. Lockwood is lucky to have talent like this in his company."
A few attendees even handed their business cards to the event staff, asking them to pass them along to Cynthia.
Noticing this from the stage, Cynthia maintained a polite, flawless smile as she continued speaking.
Down in the audience, Seraphina sat quietly, head bowed, jotting down bursts of inspiration.
She had listened to the first few minutes of the data and theories before immediately realizing the truth.
The concepts Cynthia was presenting looked flashy and sophisticated on the surface, but the core foundation was completely hollow.
Any true expert could spot the glaring flaws immediately.
However, the executives in the crowd were, at the end of the day, just businessmen. They only understood the surface-level jargon, and seeing a well-designed slideshow mixed with a few complex buzzwords made them feel like they were witnessing genius.
Seraphina had zero interest in their delusions and went back to mapping out her own equations.
Tristan leaned over periodically to glance at her rough sketches, quietly offering his own insights.
The two of them chatted casually, completely insulated from the noise and spectacle around them.
Just then, a middle-aged man in a tailored suit walked over with a teacup in hand and took the empty seat right next to Tristan.
"Mr. Spencer, it's been a while."
Tristan cast him a sideways glance. "Mr. Lancaster."
Mr. Lancaster chuckled and gestured toward the stage with his chin. "Your family has always been close with the Lockwoods, right? Now that they're expanding into nuclear tech with a genius like her leading the charge, I imagine there will be plenty of lucrative collaboration opportunities between your two empires."
Tristan's tone was ice-cold.
"We have zero intention of partnering with the Lockwoods in this sector."
"Furthermore, this industry relies on raw, undeniable capability—not smoke and mirrors in a speech."
Mr. Lancaster's smile froze entirely.
He let out a hollow laugh and shifted awkwardly in his seat, suddenly unsure if he should stay or run.
"Ah... I see... Well, in that case, I'll leave you to your discussion."
He stood up awkwardly and scurried away with his teacup, looking thoroughly embarrassed.
Seraphina shot Tristan an amused look.
When Friday evening finally rolled around, Seraphina headed straight to Clara Sinclair's cafe.
Business at The Delight Cafe had been booming lately. Even though the rival shop across the street was still operating, Clara's authentic cooking was drawing in a massive crowd of regulars.
It was the evening rush hour for the local schools, and the cafe was packed wall-to-wall.
Located just a block away from the central elementary school, the street was always bustling at this hour.
When Seraphina arrived, Clara was running frantically around the kitchen, swamped with orders.
Seraphina stripped off her coat and immediately jumped into the kitchen to help.
She was just walking out with two bowls of hot soup when a sudden commotion erupted near the door.
A little girl was slumped over a table, her face flushed bright red, both hands desperately clawing at her throat as horrific, raspy wheezing sounds tore from her lips.
The students around her began screaming in terror.
Seraphina slammed the bowls down and sprinted over.
She hauled the little girl to her feet, wrapped her arms around the child's waist from behind, made a fist just above her belly button, covered it with her other hand, and thrust violently upward.
Once. Twice. Three times.
Finally, a large, round hard candy shot out of the girl's throat and clattered onto the floor.
