Unloved Unwanted Unstoppable (Seraphina and Dominic) novel Chapter 213

Seraphina felt herself being lifted into his arms, feeling his steady, powerful heartbeat against her cheek as he carried her out with long, purposeful strides.

Then, everything went entirely black.

When she woke up, she was in a hospital room.

Her gaze drifted down from the sterile white ceiling. The private room was quiet and completely empty.

The memory of Dominic abandoning her in the fire to save someone else flooded her mind, and a self-deprecating smile touched her lips.

What was she hoping for? Did she actually think he would be sitting by her bedside?

Seraphina tried to shift her weight, but a dull ache radiated across her back.

"Don't move," a deep voice commanded from the doorway.

She turned her head and saw Gideon walking in. His wrist was wrapped in fresh bandages, and he was holding a glass of water.

Seraphina stared in surprise. "Mr. Cole?"

"Drink this if you're awake. The doctor said hydration is crucial right now," Gideon said, handing her the glass. "You have severe soft tissue damage on your back and a mild concussion. They want to keep you for observation for a few days."

Seraphina took a sip, the cool liquid soothing her parched throat.

Her mind cleared up significantly.

He was the one who had pulled her out of the inferno.

She opened her mouth, wanting to express her gratitude, but felt a wave of embarrassment. "Have you... been here the whole time?"

Gideon's expression remained calm. "Regardless of the circumstances, this happened on my property. It is my responsibility to see this through."

His reasoning was so formal and flawless that Seraphina couldn't argue.

She managed a faint smile. "You really can't be blamed for what happened."

But Gideon was adamant about taking responsibility. To her surprise, he proved to be incredibly attentive.

For the next half-day, he handled everything personally.

With Gideon gone and the caregiver yet to arrive, the room fell silent.

Her thoughts drifted back to the moments before she entered the vivarium.

Her eyes widened in realization. That figure hadn't been Lily at all.

The child had been much sturdier than Lily. In her panic, terrified that a little girl would get hurt in a snake enclosure, she hadn't processed the discrepancies.

Thinking back, there was no way that was Dominic's daughter.

Someone had dressed a decoy in Lily's clothes. It was a calculated, deliberate trap.

They wanted her in that room.

Seraphina drew a sharp breath.

Who wanted her dead?!

Right then, a knock echoed at the door.
