Expressionless, Seraphina pointed straight at the door. "Get out."
Alistair didn't dare linger. He stumbled out of the apartment like a beaten man.
As the door clicked shut, Seraphina took a deep breath and sank back onto the couch.
She let out a long sigh, but the dull ache in her chest refused to fade.
Over the past few weeks, she had uncovered a web of secrets.
Lauren was actually the product of Eleanor's affair.
And Cynthia was supposedly Alistair's illegitimate child with another woman.
One doted on her lover's daughter, the other poured his affection into his mistress's child. As their only true biological daughter, Seraphina was the one entirely discarded.
She swallowed hard, a painful lump forming in her throat.
Reaching into her bag, she pulled out a second document.
It was a DNA test between Cynthia and Alistair, and the results were glaringly clear: zero percent probability of paternity.
Cynthia wasn't even his daughter.
Alistair had spent years loving her as his own flesh and blood, giving her every resource, connection, and ounce of affection he possessed—and it was all a lie.
Clutching the report, she let out a dark chuckle.
She wondered what would happen when he finally discovered the truth.
Taking a calming breath, she tucked the paperwork away.
As her emotions settled, a new question surfaced in her mind.
If Cynthia wasn't Alistair's, who was her real father?
Based on everything she had found, Daniel Ross couldn't possibly be her biological dad either.
So who was it?
Before she could dive deeper into the mystery,
The next afternoon, she slipped into a pale blue dress and drove to the Lockwood estate.
The driveway was packed with luxury cars, the air buzzing with the chatter of wealthy guests.
Seraphina bypassed the crowded main entrance and slipped in through a side door, walking down the long corridor toward the main hall.
Old Mrs. Lockwood was seated in the place of honor, dressed in a deep red traditional gown, chatting animatedly with a few of her old friends. She looked vibrant and healthy.
Seraphina approached. "Grandma."
The matriarch's eyes lit up the moment she saw her. She waved her over enthusiastically. "Seraphina! Come here, sit down."
Placing the gift box on a side table, Seraphina leaned in and gave her a warm hug. "Happy birthday. Wishing you health and happiness."
The old woman patted her hand affectionately. "Good, good. I'm just glad you're here. Have you lost weight? Are you eating properly?"
Seraphina smiled softly. "I'm fine. I've been eating well."
They chatted for a few minutes while guests continually rotated in to pay their respects and offer their birthday wishes.
