Dominic remained silent for a long moment.
He had pulled every string he had, but the scandal was too massive to bury quietly.
"We have to wait it out. The feds are watching closely right now, so my hands are tied."
Cynthia's voice trembled with barely suppressed venom. "It's Seraphina again... What is it going to take for her to leave us alone?"
Dominic's heart sank even further.
He was wondering the exact same thing.
At that very moment, across town at the Sinclair family home.
The rich aroma of home cooking wafted from the kitchen, filling the entire house with warmth.
Clara brought out a large platter of roasted salmon, followed closely by Arthur holding a steaming pot of short rib stew. Zachary was already setting out the silverware.
Sitting at the table watching her family bustling about, a radiant smile bloomed on Seraphina's face.
"Here, eat up,"
Clara said, placing a massive cut of salmon onto her plate. "You've worked so hard these past few days. You look like you've lost weight."
Looking down at the mountain of food, Seraphina felt a lump form in her throat.
"Mom, I haven't lost an ounce. You feed me too well."
Arthur chuckled beside her. "Your mother's right, you do look thin. We owe you everything for this week. If you hadn't set everything up perfectly, we wouldn't have known what to do."
Zachary nodded in agreement. "Seriously. If you hadn't warned me to lock down all the manufacturing logs, I would have been completely ruined."
Seraphina shook her head. "Your tech is flawless, and all the paperwork is legitimate. No one can ever find fault with that."
Clara gave her hand an affectionate squeeze. "Seeing you so strong and capable gives me so much peace."
Seraphina looked down and took a bite of her food, swallowing hard to fight back the overwhelming rush of emotion.
After dinner, Zachary drove her back to her apartment.
Before she got out, he turned to her. "If anything else happens, you tell me. Don't carry it all by yourself."
Seraphina smiled softly. "I will."
Since he had completely failed to break her family, he had pivoted to turning Cynthia into a superstar.
She couldn't care less about his PR games and refused to waste any energy on it.
Chelsea, however, was outraged.
She stormed into Seraphina's office during lunch, fuming.
"Look at this! I've never even heard of the university she went to, and they're calling her an Ivy League prodigy? It's a total scam!"
Seraphina's tone was dismissive. "Whatever. Let her have her fun."
Chelsea dropped into a chair, wrinkling her nose. "It's nauseating. Dominic is burning cash just to plaster her face over every billboard in Northport. We get it, she's his girl."
Seraphina just smirked and went back to organizing her spreadsheets.
Watching her for a moment, Chelsea finally let it go. "Forget her. Come on, I'm taking you out."
Seraphina looked up. "Where to?"
"My uncle Ethan is hosting a party tonight. You're coming with me."
